Solved Quicklaunch won't go all the way to the left

When I finished this install, I deleted the default shortcuts from the quicklaunch area, with the intention of putting my own shortcuts in there.

Well after a reboot, quicklaunch was gone not only from the toolbar, but from the options list for toolbars.

So I rebuilt it per the tutorial, but now I can't drag it all the way to the left.
It effectively only scrunches all the open windows into a one inch area.

Another method, right click on taskbar, select properties, choose taskbar tab under taskbar buttons select never combine from the drop down list. To manually add desired shortcuts to quick launch right click on shortcut in start menu or all programs and choose Pin to taskbar from context menu

It can be a pain to get it to the left (I keep mine there as well). You just have to try different ways of dragging it over there. I generally drag it up & over to get left. It sometimes takes several attempts and also can displace other toolbars, requiring correction.

Also, for future reference, the Quick Launch folder is nothing special and is not restricted to any particular location. For instance, I created a folder on my D:\ (Data) partition and named it Quick Launch, placing all my frequently used shortcuts in it. I place it on the taskbar in the normal way (right click, new toolbar, browse to folder). I then uncheck 'Show Text' and 'Show Title' and drag it to the left, next to the Start orb. Then I drag it's border out to show the icons.

The advantage to this method is that it is always on my data drive, ready to be placed on the taskbar with all my preferred shortcuts after a clean install.

Hello Monsoon,

When you get to that point, drag the dotted separator line to the left of the icons on the left towards the right just past Quick Launch. Quick Launch should then slide all the way over to the left then.

The screenshots under Step 8 in the tutorial can give you a better visual to help more for this.

i've already got it set like that. and the only thing I drag into there are my two backup drives, which works fine.

heh, a lot of work because microsoft decided it wasn't worth the work.

I did get it to move over though, and it was just like you said. I kept dragging it over, around above, and finally it just went there.

Shawn, thanks for the help, but that was the tutorial I used to get the quicklaunch to show again.

But dragging the separator lines just wasn't working the way it should, which is when I started just dragging it all over the place like I mentioned in my last post there.

Ya, all's well that ends well I suppose. But I just can't understand why Microsoft has let such simple things become so complicated.

I've been tweaking my Windows 7 install across 3 or 4 reformats, for a couple of months now. Trying out new programs, etc. And it seems like these little irritating problems just never end.

It's like they didn't bother bringing in any of the software engineers from the Windows XP days.

With being able to pin items directly on the taskbar now and being able to add Toolbars to the taskbar in Windows 7, I guess Microsoft had thought that Quick Launch was just a duplication of this and was no longer needed.

It's always nice to have options though, so I wrote up this tutorial as a workaround to add Quick Launch back for those that still wanted it.

I have found it is easier to move it to the left when the toolbar title is showing.

If the title is not showing, right click on the toolbar then click toolbar title, then drag by the title all the way to the left.
