Hi,

I've recently been tweaking my desktop.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.
I have an i3 540 CPU, Asus Ati Radeon EAHD5670 GPU, WD Caviar Black 640GB, Corsair XMS3 TWINX 4GB DDR3 RAM, GIGABYTE GA-H55M-D2H MOBO...

I have been running a single monitor through my Graphics card. Everything works perfectly.

I looked up that by chaning the BIOS settings I can activate my motherboard's onboard graphics even when I have one on the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot. Therefore being able to run two moitors. One on the external GPU and one on the internal built in motherboard graphics.

When I activated the onboard graphics the first time everything worked fine.
But after a reboot, and ever since, Windows Desktop Manager "Stops Working" as soon as Windows has started and programs such as Microsoft Flight Sim and VLC stop working. Shokwave Flash plug ins on Chrome stop working too.

It is very frustrating.

I have already checked that I have the most update drivers for my motherboard and my graphics card.

Is this a:
-Graphics Card Issue
-Drivers Issue
-Compatibility Issue
-Mobo Issue

Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance :)

Why not just run both off of the the 5670, it is more than capable of running dual monitors.

As for why it isn't working with one on each,

Is this a:
-Graphics Card Issue
-Drivers Issue
-Compatibility Issue
-Mobo Issue

it could be any or a combination of all of the above. The fun part is finding out which it is.

Why not just run both off of the the 5670, it is more than capable of running dual monitors.

Thanks, I was wondering whether this was possible. I currently only have monitors with VGA inputs... Time to invest in a DVI to VGA converter I feel.

What tests could I run to find where the issue is coming from directly?
Note that both DWM and Catalyst Control Centre crash when using the onboard graphics and external graphics combined, and when only using the external Windows is stable.

V. Interesting...

An Adapter may not work, it depends on whether that DVI port is DVI-D (digital only) or DVI-I (digital and analogue/VGA). Unfortunately at the moment I can't find anything one way or the other which it is. You can have a look here,

Digital Visual Interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and match up the one on the card to what is shown.

As far as drivers go, do you have the latest Intel HD graphics driver?

Thanks for the links,

I've checked the DVI type and confirmed it to be DVI-I
http://images.novatech.co.uk/asus-90-c1cnz0-l0uan0bz_extra1.jpg

I also installed the new drivers and after restart WinSAT.exe crashed too. No change in the original problems.
I will get a DVI-VGA and post back.

Thanks again for the help.
