A couple of weeks a got a virus on my laptop it stole my bios information and other stuff. So a person I know who does computers and laptops had a look at it for me he had the back of it looking for the jumper to reset it so he found the jumper reset it and I did a full factory restore so everything was fine for a week. So I was just using it normally when it stopped working I got a black screen so I turned it off and back on there was nothing again no fan starting the power lights would go off after a few seconds. I have tried taking the battery out and holding the power button down but still nothing happens. I was wondering could the person who has had the back off have damaged something but then why would it work for a full week if that was the case. I am totally puzzled. Sorry for the long post. But any clues would be really appreciated.

Cheers :-)

So if nothing is working on the laptop, should be good to check your power supply. Maybe its damaged. But for that I'll suggest you to send the laptop to service. If you make a mistake checking that, you may damage seriously.

Just for confirmation ... on battery alone, nothing powers up. What about if you remove the battery and plug the lappy into AC power ... still nothing? If battery doesn't provide power and if AC adapter doesn't provide power, sounds like a major component failure. Possibly because something came loose during jumper reset and finally shorted out when you moved laptop around.

I'd hate to tell you to buy a new machine without first trying to find out what's wrong with this one. You might want to call around to some local computer repair shops (particularly those who might be authorized Toshiba repair facilities) and see if they would give you an estimate just for a diagnostic check. As an alternative, perhaps a local school has computer repair courses. The instructor might be willing to use your computer for training purposes either for free or at greatly reduced cost. Once you know what needs to be repaired/replaced you could decide if it's worth it or just get a new machine. Which ever way you decide to go, you might be able to get a few bucks for the old machine as a trade-in for parts, etc. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Hi I think I will take the machine to PC world see If I can get a free quote and if it's not to expensive I'll let them do it. If it's to much I'll just have to save up for a new one as I can't be without one :-)
