If you managed to get rid of Live Movie Maker - that is what causes the problem.

This sounds strange, but I just checked with Full Install of MS Live essentials, Photo Gallery launches MovieMaker.exe to play slideshow. I guess due to various slideshow effects.

That is likely the reason why Photo Gallery and Movie Maker are paired in one install option

Go to Control Panel/Programs and Features and select Windows Live Essentials and it will give you an option to Repair. See if that helps.

Thanks Jim! Normally this would help if Windows Live Essentials were installed conventional way, but not in this case. In other thread on this forum Mitch656 asked how to install Live Photo Gallery without Live movie maker.

I gave him the way, which is not really conventional and does not have a normal uninstaller or anything mentioned in Programs and Features.

Basically, the problem described in this thread should not exist if Microsoft Live Essentials were installed normal way.

I remember that thread. Photo Gallery and Movie Maker depend of each other for lots of things. If you want to import a movie from your camcorder it is done though Photo Gallery even thought afterwards you use Movie Maker to edit it. And as he found out, playing slides from Photo Galley uses Movie Maker to play the slide show. I guess that is why MS have both installed as default.

After reading the above posts and other websites on this matter, with me having Windows 10 Pro x64, i had installed the complete Windows Essentials 2012 package, even though it seemed like it was designed for Windows 8. I restarted my computer, and had the same error, "An error is preventing this Slide Show from playing". So, i went into the Control Panel, in Programs and Features, and highlighted Windows Essentials 2012, and clicked on "Repair all Windows Essentials program". It worked like a charm! I now get to use the personalized picture folder that i stored all of the new suggested pictures that Windows 10 has been asking if i like and want more.
