Windows 7 Home 64 and CS 1.6

I run CS through Steam and just the .exe and I get to the loading screen with the two counter terrorists. I see my mouse appear and disappear and then CS just up and closes on me. I've read through many of the threads here involving CS 1.6 and at other sites and tried many of the fixes people listed but none have worked. I tried changing the compatibility to Windows Vista, Windows XP sp 2 and 3. I tried DEP settings. I tried running from a virtual machine in xp mode as well. All these things and nothing.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
on an Intel i7-2630QM 2.0 GHz processor,
a Nvidia Geforce GT 540M graphics card,
and 4 gigs of DDR3 ram.

Ahh yes, CS 1.6, that old chestnut. Have you made sure your GPU drivers are up to date, also that your Direct X files are also up to date?

Yes I have, I have DirectX 11 and my Nvidia drivers are up to date.

ok this might sound crazy but make sure you have the DX9 files installed too. also try pluging in a mic and see if it stays up. last item to try is to turn off the steam overlay for steam friends.

I'm sure CS 1.6 can't work on Win7 at all(maybe on some computers it works but it needed DirectX 9.0,DirectX11 is for real games not games like this)

CS 1.6 is a bug itself

CS 1.6 will run on Windows 7 x64 you just need to make sure you install DX9

I Said that it's not working on Win7 but I say it could work on some PC With Win7
My PC can't run CS1.6(I Had DirectX 9.0 on it)

I installed DirectX 9 and it's still doing the same thing. The wallpaper of the two counter terrorists comes up and then it closes and when I change the compatability, it says the hl.exe isn't responding and closes. Is there anything else I can try/do?

It's quite possible that the problem could be data execution prevention stopping CS1.6 from running at all. Tried installing CS Condition Zero on my machine, and it crashed to desktop every time I went to start a game. I added it to the exceptions list for data execution prevention and voila! -it worked. It can be found by right-clicking Computer, select Advanced System Settings on the left, then Performance Settings and clicking the data execution prevention tab. It may be set to "Turn on DEP for windows programs and services only". Try selecting the other option (turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select), and add ALL the programs you want to use to the exception list (a pain, but worked for me!).
CS1.6 will run with any version of DirectX with differing results. I have it set to DirectX11 (seems to run better for me)! It could also be blocked by Windows Firewall (open Start menu, type "firewall" and add CS1.6 to the list (private, not public). Hope this helps.
If you get it working and have any other problems (lag, high ping, etc,.), post a reply here and I will try to follow up.

I have the same config as yours, I have an 8 GB RAM, and mine is a laptop. DELL XPS 15..

I had the same issue as this a little while back. What worked for me is by going in to steam and changing the launch options to either -d3d or -gl. Hopefully if the OP doesn't need this info someone will

win 7 home premium cs problem

Hello everybody!Can anyone help me with an error that is accoureing when I wanna to start cs 1.6: The error is fatal and it says MEMORY AVAILABLE LESS THAN 15MB.
pleaseeeeeeee help me. oooo and i have toshiba laptop i7
