I've gone through the hell of updating it and now when I go to battle.net in WC3 it gets to "downloading data files" and says that there was an error writing to your hard drive. I have tried running in administrator mode, windows xp compatibility mode, tried taking control, nothing works. I am about to just give up, I want to know if anyone can help me.

Welcome to seven forums!
I checked the warcraft 3 software in the windows 7 compatibility center and it told me that it is suppose to be compatible. However, I googled the software and found many problems with it and windows 7. Ill report back to you after I search for a possible solution okay?

Update:
I found a solution: Go to the warcraft installation folder.
Select War3.exe then, right click it, properties.

Compatibility -> check disable desktop composition.

It says that there is an error writing to your hard drive right? then do this...uninstall whatever you have, then reinstall the software onto another folder that is not in the program files folder (ex: external hdd, other partition, etc.)
Tell me if it works!

Okay, this is really really a last resort but this will ELIMINATE a permission error. This is pretty risky though.
Go to cmd, run as administrator and type in : net user administrator /active:yes
This will create a new user account that gives you absolute control as a full administrator, not as a partial administrator (default). Log out and sign in to the new account. Keep in mind that by default, this full admin account doesn't have uac or protected mode turned on by default.
Now, from this account, try reinstalling the software. There shouldn't be a permission error. If there is, then its the installer or an incompatibility with a core part of windows 7. Then, it would be very hard to get it running

When you are done doing this, log off the net user admin, and logon to your user account. Go to cmd, and erase the net user admin: net user administrator /active:no

I hope for you the best!

Could you please share how you solved this problem. Originally I had the same issue, now my problem is that the game flickers when I Alt+Tab and toggle it. Also sometimes it opens and closes right back to the task bar, any way to get rid of this too?

Hey Guys, i got a simillar problem.
Installed Windows 7 a few days ago and WC3 TFT is the only problem i have so far.
When i start it in normal mode my Custom Keys work in Custom Games (Single Player Mode). But if i try to enter battle net it gives me the same failure as mentioned above.

When i start WC3 in administrator mode and/or compability mode (XP SP3) it joins battle net but therefore the custom keys wont work anymore.

Any ideas?

regards

You will need to create two blank text documents in C:/Windows. One called War3Unin.dat and War3Unin.exe. this will allow Fronzen Throne to be installed.
