Adobe Photoshop CS5 . The Easiest one !
But , it is not the best alone. Either Photoshop accompanied by Illustrator, or CorelDraw Graphics Suit X5 is the best .
Edit : At the same time, CorelDraw is the toughest one !
If I were you Lava, I would play around with the free ones first. Get use to layers and textures.
Gimp or paint.net are free.
Adobe PS and Corel are for advanced users and they both have a 30 day trial period for you to check out.
I use all of the above mentioned software and for quite some time now but I'd have to disagree .... Photoshop is one of the more difficult to master if you use it to it's full potential. Corel only seems more difficult because you are learning to use a "suit" a bit like MS office.
Corel consists of more that one program this is why it comes across a bit more involved. If you were trying to just learn how to use Corel PhotoPaint alone you wouldn't find it any more difficult than PS. CorelDraw is a different kettle of fish as this is a vector based program with full support for bitmap editing included .... much better value for money in my opinion
