The laptop came with preinstalled Vista. But i later switched to Win 7 Prof 32 bit. It's a licensed version my institute subscribes to. Everytime i put my computer on sleep/hibernate, the next time i try to resume it cays that Windows shut down unexpectedly. The error report shows a Blue Screen error. The guys at Sony refuse to provide any support as the laptop originally came with Vista.
Please advise.

You have outdated drivers
Those need to be updated:
Synaptic Touchpad: Drivers | Synaptics

SD card, modem driver Support for VGN-CS35GN : CS Series : VAIO™ Notebook : Sony Asia Pacific (use Vista drivers as Sony does not provide any Windows 7 Certified drivers)

Remove Sony Power Utility/Vaio Power Management if they are installed

Run Driver Verifier, wait for the laptop to crash and upload the new .zip file

As advised, I have:
1. Updated my Synaptic touchpad driver. (Uninstalled the previous driver and installed the new driver from the Synaptic website link given).

2. Updated the SD Card and Modem driver from the Sony website. (Used the Windows Vista Business 32-bit drivers. I am not sure but I believe that was my original OS.)

3. I removed the Vaio Power Mangement Program.

4. I ran the Driver Verifier. After using the settings as advised, I restarted the computer upon being prompted. When my computer was rebooting, a blue screen appeared. After that Windows Startup Recovery ran, which made some automatic repairs. After restarting again the computer resumed normally.

What do I do now?

To me that looks like you have either a bad hard drive or possibly corrupted files.

Run a system file check first
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

And then run a hard drive scan usings SeaTools - SeaTools for Windows | Seagate - Both long and short tests

Looks like it has worked. What I don't know, but thanks a lot.

Btw, is there something that I should do to check whether everything's fine or not? Or whether there's any chance of the problem reoccurring?

Thanks a lot anyway.

::)

Could have been the Marvell driver. And the only way to check if everything is fine is to see if the crash still happens

All crashes were the same as before. I'm out of ideas as to what to try.

You can try a disk check and see if there are bad sectors
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html

You can try disabling Hybrid Sleep. Not sure what that is or where you would find the setting (possibly BIOS), but a quick google search recommended trying that

Tried disk check on both the partitions. Did not show any bad sectors or any other problems.

& if you are not sure about Hybrid Sleep, I don't think I want to try it! :)

Thanks for trying anyway. If you (or anybody else at this forum) chance upon something do reply back and i'll try that fix.

Since something definitely had worked, I tried the fixes that you had suggested earlier, again: updated the Modem, SD, Synaptic TouchPad and Marvell drivers. I also set the hiberfile size as given in the command.
I had also uninstalled Vaio power management as advised by yowanvista... but it's still showing in my list of programs in the Control Panel, yet when i'm trying to uninstall now, it's showing some error.

The hibernation problem of course remains.

I am attaching the newest dump files & performance report.
Please check and advise.

And one more thing, between the time when the hibernate was working for a short while, till when it stopped working again, the only thing that i can think of which may have affected the computer's settings is i allowed the computer's battery to discharge entirely. And it was supposed to go into hibernation after the charge level was ~7%. But i guess, it didn't.
