Having an HD along with the SSD

I was thinking of getting a 256 GB SSD for Games/OS , and a 1 TB HDD as a trunk. To keep downloads, etc. Now will that HDD cripple the performance of my computer in any way?

Don't think it would, since the OS would be installed on the SSD; which would improve performance quite substantially and not cripple it.

A mechanical HD is always slower than an SSD, but it's really not feasible to populate your system with SSDs. Most buy one for the OS, games and apps. I suppose some may buy 2 and it may be helpful if your OS, apps and games surpass the small SSD sizes. 256GB should be plenty.

Certainly no need for SSD for a 'storage' drive.

I'm asking this because i have no idea how it works, and i have a theory in my head that the SSD waits for the HDD response which would be slower, therefore crippling it. Its probably wrong, but i'm just confirming it.

Yes, writing from an SSD to HDD will be limited to the write speed of the HDD, but you still gain the overall performance boost from the SSD. The SSD for OS/programs/games & HDD for storage is a great combo.

No. If set up correctly, an HDD will actually help increase the performance of the SSD as you're able to move certain files Windows writes to a lot to the HDD. I moved my Windows\Temp, IE temp, Firefox Temp and Indexing to my F3.

It will work fine as it what most of us with SSD's do. I have an SSD ad a standard mechanical hard drive. Even if I made 2 million dollars a year, I wouldn't switch my storage drive to an SSD...there is just no need and it would be a waste of money.

Remember, standard hard drives are fast enough for 98% of the population.

I have 2 SSDs and 3 mechanical HDDs in my system. No it will not cripple it. All my user files are on Mechanical HD and you'll never know the difference.
