How to merge two drives?

Hi ppl,
I'm using the dell inspiron 1545 with win7 64-bit(C. I also have ubuntu installed in D:.

1.) Can I directly format my D:?? Will it remove ubuntu from my PC??

2.) Is there a way I can merge C: and D: after formatting D:??

I am going to assume that C: and D: are both partitions on the same hard drive. If so:

1. Yes, you can directly format it. Open up the start menu, type partition in the search box, and click on Create and format hard disk partitions. From there, you can delete the D: partition, thus uninstalling Ubuntu.
2. By merge, do you mean expand the C: partition to take up the space formerly consumed by the D: partition? If so, then yes, right click on the C: partition, and click on Extend volume.

Thanks for replying. I did format the D:. But there's no option like EXTEND VOLUME if i right click on C:.

I found out the way by going to disk management and then I right clicked on C:, but the DISK EXTEND option has been disabled.

In that case, you can install Partition Wizard and follow step three of this tutorial:

You can't extend C if D is still formatted. You need to delete the partition of D, before C can be expanded. This also assumes you want nothing left on D, and nothing on it needs to be saved. You will also have "repair" C to make it bootable again, if you truly want Ubuntu and GRUB gone.

If deleting D as suggested by Deacon doesn't allow Extend, please post back a screenshot of your full Disk Management drive map with listings, using SNipping Tool in Start Menu.

It was better to repair MBR first. His system could be unbootable...
