Solved SATA DVD not bootable in BIOS

From your moboard manual.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO/U3S6

2.3.3 TYPE - The note under this by pen or feather? whatever it is.

It would appear you need the CD drive plugged into SATA port 5 or 6 then select is as CD/Rom.

Then of course select it in Boot options to use it for the boot CD drive if wanted.

That is what I understand from reading through the manual. It isn't as straightforward in explanations as it could be.
I could be wrong.

Yes I downloaded manual. I have Asus board myself and the manuals are a bit ???? on some info. Sometimes need a decrypter to understand them. :(

there are only 5 not 6 sata on board, plus 1 esata. i would reset the bios to default and try once again. your mobo is new enough to have usb 3.0 so it should not have any problems with the sata dvd. i would say it is something with the dvd.

I have 6 on-board SATA connectors (plus the one eSATA) and only USB 2.0 support on this board.

Which of the 5 SATA ports is the drive connected too? Also I'll assume AHCI mode due to having a SSD and you have the drive connected to either port 5 or 6, which if that's the case no one read the next page in the manual for the SATA set up in the bios,

ahci.PNG

Would be why you can't see the drive as a boot device. Easiest solution would be to switch it with one of the non-boot HD's, and then it will be available without having to change any settings.

ok someone posted the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO/U3S6 as your board in stead of the ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO

even though you do not have usb 3.0 you do still only have 5 sata and one esata. your board is still new enough that it should have no problems with the sata dvd. so bios or dvd firmware is most likely your problem.

Victory!
I swapped the data cables as you suggested.
BIOS is happy and I can now boot from my SATA DVD drive
Windows is happy, as the drives are all showing in Device Manager and the Disk Management Tool exactly as I wanted them to be.
And I am happy- A Big Thank You to everyone that provided help on this topic!

I guess I can mark this Solved! Again! :D

:D

Mine is the same only with 6 ports instead of 5. I use the two on mine like that for my storage drives, keeps them from being seen until Windows loads.

I'm glad you have it working.

It only took five people to fix it. LOL

They could have just included all the info in one place in the manual instead of spreading it on three pages. :(

Glad you figured it out for him Stormy.
Good call!

Mike
