By Default it would Open in Windows Live photo gallery which does not support the .Gif format and only shows a still image

If you right click and select Open with.. >Internet Explorer

Then the Gif animation should run

gif - GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) image files. The default program is Internet Explorer.

IE will display animated gif's. They are available in Win 7, see my avatar.

EDIT: My quote is a direct link to a reg file. Download, save to desktop, extract it. Right click on the result and click Merge, give permission if you are prompted. It will set the gif association to IE.

A simple way to set Internet Explorer as the default program to open all gif files ......

Right click at one of the gif files > select Open With > click Choose Default Program > select Internet Explorer > click OK.

If you don't have Open With option in your right click context menu, use this tutorial ......

RE : using Open With to set Internet Explorer as default program
You only have to do it once.
After that, next time you want to open a gif file, all you have to do is the normal way.... right click at gif file > click Open.

This method to open many files are not fast at all.
In addition, can not be seen many Gif files consecutive
I like Windows Live photo gallery can to open the Gif files
it is defect that Windows Live photo gallery can not open Gig files.
