I don't want to turn my windows into another language, the English version is fine, but i want to be able to write in english, french and chinese. Do i necessarily need the Ultimate version for that ?

I disagree -- but it depends on what you want to do on your computer.

The biggest feature missing in Home Premium is that it doesn't have a Remote Desktop Server which means if you want to connect with your computer at homewhich is running W7 Home Premium from a remote Internet site you won't be able to use RDP to connect to it.

You'll need at least the Business edition.

Now I know a lot of people WANT to be able to logon to their home computers from work or wherever so missing an RDP server is a big omission -- same proble in Windows XP home and XP Pro but XP home was "Hackable" to allow RDP functionality to work.

Whether W7 Home premium will aloow a similar hack I don't know.

Ok consider yourself a normal worker, taking about $1000 per month. Lamborghini mantainance costs ya a lot, tires costs you about $2000 (LOL). So if you ever buy lamborghini, you'll have it in your garage every day. Maybe you are gonna to use it on weekend, once a month.

Ultimate is scam, just like Vista Ultimately. Seriously, how many of us really 'used' any of the Vista Ultimate's "extra, exclusive" features?

Since early 2007 when I got my Vista Ultimate, I´ve been very happy to be able to use my personal home computer in 4 different languages. My wife has her own user account in German, which is her native language. I can use it in Finnish, my native language. For work-related reasons too complicate to explain here, I time to time also need the possibility to use my computer in my working languages English and Swedish.

First Vista Ultimate gave me this opportunity and now I could not think any other way to use my computer. With Windows 7 lurking behind the corner I´ll be happy to pay the extra cost to get Ultimate.

All the other "Ultimate Extras" are basicly meaningless for me though an interesting bonus.

However, there are several advantages over Business. BitLocker and BitLocker to go are the biggest. Yes, you can use TrueCrypt, but it's not 100% identical functionality. For instance, TrueCrypt doesn't use your TPM chip if you have one, thus it uses more CPU cycles to encrypt and decrypt, and it's less secure (because TPM stores keys in hardware, although TrueCrypt offers some better encryption methods). Also BitLocker can be controlled via ActiveDirectory and GroupPolicy, TrueCrypt can't.

Other features over Business is Services for Unix, Boot from VHD, AppLocker, Multiple Languages, Branch Cache, and a few other smaller details.

If you don't use any of those things, or want to use them, then certainly Business is a better choice. For those that do want to use them, then Ultimate/Enterprise is the better choice.

However, I dislike your terming of BitLocker as "useless".. certainly it's not.

My mistake. Vista called it Business, and I was under the impression they stayed with that, but I guess they went back to "Pro" for 7.

There is a major change in the way that the SKU's for windows7 are featured from vista.

In vista the home version and the business version both contained items that the other did not, Ultimate (enterprise) was the superset of both lower SKUs,
This made it useful for those who, for example, used the system at home and at work

With Seven each SKU contains all features of the lower version so that I believe that the professional edition will fulfill the role of vista's ultimate (apart from the already mentioned language and Bitlocker extras, of course).
THe other extras which are available in ultimate or enterprise such as branch cache are only really needed in an enterprise scenario
