Every time I upload photos to my external drive using windows live photo gallery, when I move the external drive to another computer, I can't read the files due to some sort of default read protection placed on the uploaded files. I can't figure out how to make photo gallery make all the photos un-readonly.

I was hoping for a longer term solution; how can I make photo gallery copy the photos from my sd card to the external hard drive as editable (ie, not read-only) files automatically? I like the way photo gallery parses and tags the photos, but I won't use it if I can't save the files in a usable manner.

It might help if you put these files in a public folder location, or make sure the properties of the photo are set to everyone to have full rights to them,
But in wlpg a public folder might just be as good,
But keep in mind windows 7 will try to protect your system from files from other computers,
If you go to internet options, and then advanced tab, scroll down to the security section, check the box to allow active content from cd's to run on your computer.
Odd place but it might help ?

What format are your photos ? I usually only save as .JPEG as they can be editted.
