Hey guys,

Tried searching didnt find anything.

After windows update my computer hangs at the shutting down screen when I restart it, I get the to the windows flag but then the screen goes blank and I never get to the login screen.

This is the second windows update this has happened on. Luckily I can get into safemode and do a system restore (which also hangs at the shut down screen, but works when I do a hard reset).

You guys have any ideas?

Let's see if VEW shows what's going on.

Download VEW by Vino Rosso http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your desktop

Double click it to start it Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to right click the file and select Run as administrator and click Continue or Allow at the User Account Control Prompt.
Click the check boxes next to Application and System located under Select log to query on the upper left

Under Select type to list on the right click the boxes next to Error and Warning Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 also click the box next to Critical (not XP).

Under Number or date of events select Number of events and type 20 in the box next to 1 to 20 and click Run

Once it finishes it will display a log file in notepad
Please copy and paste its entire contents into your next reply

If what you recommended to the previous poster is correct. Then I'm going to assume that this service might be causing the problem: Spybot - search & destroy. I'll uninstall it and see what happens:)

Update: So I uninstalled SB S&D. Did a reboot and at least now the 'windows is shutting down' spinning icon stayed spinning! It used to freeze. So I let it spin for a full 5 minutes...Still no restart.

BTW I have never had a successful restart/shut-down since the primary update after a clean install.

K. So I went there. And it describes the problem. But I don't understand how to fix it. Do I have to play with bios? Cause I am not confident with making changes to bios that I am unsure of..

I found it!

It was my Ideazon Z board Keyboard driver. I deleted the programme and have never had a problem since.
It was discovered when I took my PC to a friend and we discovered that it re-started and shut-down no problems using his keyboard, etc....
From there it was a simple process.
Thanks for all the replies!
