The only way I could shut acer down was unpluging my computer. The moniter said "no something, I'm sorry but I forget. Is there a way with the keyboard to shut it down?
I called my provider and they said it was a moniter or card problem, but it works good since i plugged it back in. I have window 7. Thank you Carol

With out seeing the display it's difficult...the easiest way would be to press and hold the power button on the PC after about 5 secs it will power down. Unpluging at the wall should be a last resort.

monitor probably said no signal or no input.
If the computer locks up and your screen goes out, you either have to press and hold the power button or unplug it, but first just press the power button once and see if it will shut down.
Most (maybe all) modern Windows PC's will run the shut down sequence if you press the power button, just like going to Start then Shutdown.

Sometimes you get the "No signal" message on your monitor if you have installed a graphics card or monitor driver software update via automatic update and it needs a restart. Either of the methods above will let you shutdown your computer. When you switch it back on you will probably get the "windows did not shut down properly" message and startup options. Just select "start normally" and you should be good to go.

You need to hold down the power button for a few seconds to force a shutdown, but the underlying problem needs to be addressed as to why the problem occurs.

As your computer is only a couple of months old you need to get in touch with your computer manufacturer and get it fixed while it's under warranty.

Thanks seavixen, you stole the words right outta my mouth (:)).

By the way Carol, I wanted to clarify something for you that might help. There are 2 ways to press the Power button. To force a shutdown you press and hold the button down for at least 5 seconds until your computer turns off.

The other way, is to just press the Power button briefly and immediately release it. Depending on how you have your "Shut Down" options selected, this will usually cause your computer to sleep or hybernate --- then you press the Power button again briefly, and it should awaken.

The first thing you need to do is to find out why there is no display.
Two main causes are;
1. the computer has hibernated or gone to sleep, if it has you need someone to explain what the difference is and how to wake the computer. this is controlled under Power Options in the control Panel.
2. it's Broke, as it is under warranty DO NOT MESS WITH IT it will void your warranty, I know it will be a pain but you should return it for repairs or replacement
