Move Immovable Files?

Anyone know of an app that can move immovable files?

I've got a wee bit of empty space in my C:/ drive... I'd like to shrink it, but there's a single file stopping me.

Yeah but they may be immovable for a reason. does the defragger tell you what they are?

If you move them and they are something like a system file, or page file, you would be hosed. Find out what they are before you move them

Zigzag is on the ball.

Files which are in use, the Master File Table (if the drive is NTFS), and the system page files to name a few.

I want to shrink my C:/ drive down to about 100 gigs, but that one file is stopping me. Why on earth would the system park a file way the heck out there? Just to mess with my head? Grrr....

I guess I'll have to live with it this way until I clean install the official Win 7 release in a few months. Then I'll make sure the C: partition is shrunk before the install.

There is another way. when you do a backup and then a restore most commercial utilities automatically defrag during the restore. Norton ghost does and I think acronis does as well

Have a look at sysinternals tools pendmove and movefile utilities that allow you to move normally locked files. They are command line utilities - information here ....
