converting my windows mail files to windows live mail

I had to reinstall my hard drive due to a nasty virus. I had Vista 32 business. I backed up all of my windows mail files using an online service. Presently I installed a windows 7 professional upgrade. I have restored my windows mail files to the desktop, but can not get them into windows live mail.

Help!!!

In Windows Live Mail do File-Import-Messages.
AFAIK, if the Windows Mail Message store is intact, it will import

You did not say how they appear on your desktop or how they were backed up in the first place. But if you open Windows Explorer to the desktop in details view you should be able to see all the files on your desktop. Then use the search box to enter *.eml and all the individual messages will be left and everything else will disappear from the list. You can select them one (or any number) at a time and just drag and drop them into any folder within WLM after you open WLM. If you can't see any *.eml files in Explorer it may be because your backup program compressed them somehow and you'll have to use the backup program's instructions to find out how to recover the individual files.
