okay I looked under the hardrive properties in the computer section and it says the drive is a WDC drive

so pretty much windows boots normally, but is that factory mode really that important for the OS? I mean the windows is working.

I'd run the alt + F10 again and let it run for well over 1 hour. It has to do a lot of decompression and I think you would have a relatively low power CPU. Give it 2 hours say???

i don't even know what sysprep is. when you factory restore it, it makes your log in a few times during restore, and a little window pops up saying system preparation tool, and gives your a selection to reboot, quit, or shutdown. I choose reboot, and thats it. other then that, the restoration software process never finishes, i shut my commputer off and windows boots normally, but i am wondering why that piece of software at the end of the process doesnt finish?

the hardrive failed the quick test but passed the full test. the quick test had an -03 smart read error. the full test had no issues

Find a Win7 retail installation DVD for your version to clean reinstall with Product Key on COA sticker, which is a much superior install anyway. Details in my signature link below.

OKay gonna try a different methods probably better then the other ones. I am going to launch the commmand prompt and type chkdsk C: /F /R

chkdsk only repairs Software file problems, not hardware problems.

is there any way to try to install sysprep factory mode in the command prompt since I can't do it in the restoration process? like what commands do I type?
