3 GB DDR3 / upgrade

I have now 3 GB DDR3 ( triple channel ) and i wanna upgrade to 6 GB.
Please tell me if is okay to get 3 gb more, like this :
1 x 2 GB and 1 x 1 GB
Would that affect triple channel ?
If i go this way, i will have 4 x 1 GB and 1 x 2 GB , 6 in total.

That not the way I would do it. To my memory that motherboard has 6 ram slots. To get 6 gigs of triple channel I would install 2 more 1 gig matching ram.

Sorry but i don't understand what you mean.
My motherboard is Gigabyte GA EX58 UD5.

He said your mobo has 6 RAM slots. You said you had 3GB in the form of three 1GB sticks right now.

You plan to double your RAM to 6GB by adding a fourth 1GB stick and then one 2GB stick, leaving you with 4x 1GB, 1x 2GB and one empty slot. That will work but you won't get proper triple-channel support.

He said you're far better off by simply adding three more 1GB sticks so you have six times 1GB, filling all slots and allowing the system to support triple-channel over your entire RAM. (He said 'add 2 more 1GB sticks', but he either meant on top of already having 4x 1GB or he was confused and meant 'add 3x 1GB' instead.)

also according to your system specs you are running 32bit(x86)OS so adding more ram would be pointless. As the OS would only use at the most 3.2GB of ram.

If i get 6 GB ram i will change the OS from x86 to x64

And the only reason for doing this is gaming. I don't really know if is worth to upgrade from 3 to 6 GB.
What do you think ?

FWIW, your mobo will support up to 24GB RAM.

According to some online stores like Newegg and TigerDirect, 2GB sticks are running around $13 each. 1GB sticks are about $9. You could get 6 x 2GB matched sticks for around $80 and have enough RAM for now and the foreseeable future. Considering that many laptops are being shipped with 6 - 8GB, and games are becoming more CPU and RAM intensive, I'd plan for the future and get as much RAM as I could afford. Also, Windows 7 deals with resource management in a much better way than previous operating systems. So whatever RAM you have installed will be used to maximum benefit.

Just my 2 cents.
