Meanwhile for those will be seeing IE 8 included in 7 outside of EU influence and looking for a way to remove IE 8 and not simply disable it someone apparently has method for that. AeroXperience » Blog Archive » Internet Explorer 8 can be removed from Windows 7

I checked the windows features just to see what can I do, and it turns out there is a telnet client/server feature you can enable, that is better than having to download a telnet client..

The part that many have to look at is how all this will have an impact on the average user who is soon to see a new version of Windows without any browser simply the OS.

This is something MS came up with, the EU for sure doesn't accept as a solution. Windows 7E is deadborn.

No MS sees the Intel cloud hanging, recognizes they risk to get dragged in a long court battle against an adversary with unlimited resources who's really pissed of and the outcome could be they have to pay up to 10% of their annual revenue in fines over each year they didn't comply with the EU's directive.

Maybe they keep 7E as an option but just to save face. Europe will have normal windows with i guess a options screen to download a browser of choice.

tnx. Just funning a bit. This thread was good going, pity it's drawing to an end. Some nice posts here.

Everywhere else it just descends into the standard MSfans versus MShaters bashes.

The crowd here is pretty mature good going guys, was fun while it lasted but the fat lady is about the sing soon and Win7E won't be it's lyrics...

I knew there was a way to see that done without simply deleting the iexplorer.exe file which still amounts to nothing. The method seen there should work without problems. It took awhile to relocate the page again however.

The telnet client/server feature already being there should make things quite a bit easier I would say! The things I prefer to download are the things you can run on more then one edition not the items you should see included.

That was another lead balloon by MS for the MS haters! For the Vista haters on the other hand they'll be glad to get into 7 in any shape or form. It's a no win but no lose situation at the same time it seems!

People need something to squak about for the most part. I guess you have to consider human nature to some degree as being a part of it.

I have to wonder now what the EU reaction will be to the new Google Chrome OS since that itself is a strictly web based OS unlike the rest where you can install programs locally on your system. With that everything is remote access. So you know that will come with "it's own" browser built into it!

it'll be open source Google says, the EU promotes open source as much as possible. And if they don't charge for it they're not within the jurisdiction of the competition committee so they can't do much.

Giving away stuff for free is at the moment allowed.

the OS gets sold, you get the browser with the OS as part of the OS. In fact you didn't have choice in the matter which started this off.

Just read through this thread.
I must be naive. I thought everyone regarded M$ and other multinational corporations as anti-competitive and out to squash the little guy, dictate prices to the consumer, etc.
As someone once said this is the unacceptable face of capitalism and offends both those on the left and on the right.
So from my point of view the EU is correct on this.

However, I live in the UK and am also concerned as to how it will affect me and also affect the takeoff of W7 in the EU.
I am capable of downloading my browser of choice to a USB stick but I would think the majority of pc users are not.
I can't really see some kind of multichoice screen as there would always be some little known browser that gets left off and complains.

So what are the practicalities of this and will we have to wait for our E version?

Hello John,

As far as I am aware the E version of Windows 7, which meets the terms of the EU dictate to not include the IE browser, will ship on time, to the EU area

The only problem Microsoft have is that the upgrade process will not work correctly so they will be shipping the full version for the price of an update until this is solved - I believe until the end of 2009.

This is of course subject to change

I think that we can say we do a bit better value for money wise that we would have done.

normal exchange rate is £1 = about $1.6

Software exchange rate = £1 = $1

Agreed. The exchange rate has always been 1:1 even when the dollar was really weak against the pound and prices based on the dollar should have made things really cheap for us.
I can recall well off friends going on weekend shopping trips to the States and coming back laden with electrical goods and camera lenses etc. not too long ago.

I'm still curious as to how we will get online. As I say I can put FF on a stick but a lot of people won't know how to do that.

I don't know. My sources tell me that the EU isn't going to accept Win7 E as a solution which frees them from sanctions.

Sure they can ship it, it's a free world.

Just if they do, and don't implement the resolution which will be the result
of the ongoing talks between the parties they WILL be severely sanctioned.

It's then up to MS to take the risk of a lengthy court battle which they are not sure to win. And if they lose WILL be fined to the limit of the EU committee's possibilities.

If MS starts out on this road, and it takes 7 years and they loose that means 7 years worth of fines. It's generally assumed the EU will impose the 10% maximum.

A lot of lawyers already spat out their morsel, but what is sure if to the court it's clear that Win7E is the same subterfuge as VistaN they will see that as ill will and removing ie is then not seen as compliance with the EU directive.

But everybody has the right to buy Win7E ofcourse. I wouldn't as there channels enough to get the full package.
