How do I find "found"files created by CHKDSK?

I had some trouble with one of my harddisks, after I connected it via a USB hub. When I disconnected it and put it back in later on, checkdisk told me I had a corrupted file and proposed a scan. After scanning, it told me that it had created a found file somewhere. I didnt find it, but since nothing was missing, I didn´t think about it any further. A couple of days later, the same thing happened again, but this time most of my files were gone. I searched everywhere for the "found"files, but there are nowhere to be seen. Anyone got an idea where they went?

Welcome Zeraphyne to the windows 7 forums.

You might not be seeing the "found" files because they are listed as system files.

You need to go to Control panel and look in folder options. select the view tab and then unselect the hide options on system and hidden files. while your at it I receommend unchecking them all so that you can see all files and files extensions.
normally chkdsk puts the found files in the root directory of your drive.

Thank you very much, Rich! I found the files, but now I get the next problem, of course. The system denies me access to the files. Any idea how to avoid that?
I tried to change the security properties, but that didn´t help. Another interesting thing is that with the harddisk plugged in, I can´t delete files without the system telling me that the recycle bin on that harddisk-drive is corrupted and if i want to empty it. Didnt say yes until now because I was afraid to delete the files that i was looking for.

Thanks, Bisval. Unfortunately, it doesn´t work. The computer doesn´t find anything when I search for CHKSDK or for checkdisk, for that matter. Any idea where it is lying on my OS so that I can start it manually?

chkdsk is the name. you might have typed it wrong.

But something tells me that your disk could be corrrupted.
finding the found000 files is one thing but sorry you can't do much with them as they are just
parts of the corrupted/lost files clusters. Takes a real expert with tools to extract much from them.

I think it might be time for a complete format of the disk unless you have copied any files that are recoverable
from it.

Hi, Rich!
Thankfully I wasn´t eager to give up so easily and tried some recovery software (PC Inspector) and was able to find the files (accessable) and save most of my files. Some were beyond rescue, but at least I got the most of it back! But thank you very much for helpful insight :)

plz help,my important files were gone!
I have a 1T external hard drive( NTFS, my passport Western Digital) .yesterday i right click on drive in windows 7 my computer --> properties --> tools --> check now --> and i check both these boxes :
-Check Disk dialog box Automatically fix file system errors
-Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
after about 2 hour, process finished.but when i go to my external hard drive. i just found 30 gb of my files and folder was remain and other(about 900 gb!) were lost! and the free space of disk wasn't changed that maybe shows folder and files are not deleted.

why were the data deleted? Chkdsk tell nothing me when it completed! If data disappears it usually is because files are damaged and the

Chkdsk utility attempts to separate the damaged files out BUT there aren't any files or folders with such as these names "found.000" or "*.chk" in my external hdd.( showing hidden and system files is on)
note: i found my chkdsk log in event view in windows cp :
there ware a lot of records like this : Deleting orphan file record segment 60010.
plz help to find prob and get my files back .
