Computer system reset but now adobe flash player is not working

I recently reset my computer and whenever i go to open ie a window pops up saying how i want to open the file. I just click search on the web and that gets me on the internet. Problem is I need to update my adobe flash player and whenever i try and download it and run it it says what file i want to open it with instead of just running. Have no clue what to do

Where are you downloading from? I get it from here: Adobe - Install a different version of Adobe Flash Player

I have a X64 system so what I get is: install_flashplayer11x64_mssd_aih.exe

What do you get when you download?

thats where i tried to download from. mine comes up as installflashplayer11x32ax_gtba.aih.exe. if i could get it to run itd be fine but it always ask when i want to run it example: internet explorer or windows media player and i tried that and it does nothing

It sounds like Windows isn't' recognising the file extension.

Can you install any other programs on your PC?

It might be a fake installer (i.e. malware)

Is "Hide extensions for known file types" still selected (one of the stupidest default settings ever conceived and implemented)?

The installer download may have got corrupted.
Perhaps you should try downloading it again.

no i can't install anything or bring up anything without it going to the folder asking what i want to use to open the file. thanks ill have to try that.

sfc /scannow

If you can't install anything then there is a problem.

You may need to open the "Command Prompt" and execute:

sfc /scannow

whenever I click on a program the "choose a program to open with" pops up. very frustrating. i have tried to download adobe flash player and run it but the open with always comes up so i click on a random one and it just goes back to needing to run it again and it does it over and over. if i could delete the .exe part and have it just run that would be fine with me.

Try creating a new user profile and see if you can run executables there. If it does, you may need to fix a corrupted user profile:

Do any of your programs still work?

Does your AV program work?
Can you run an AV scan?

Have you tried running the System File Checker?

If you can't install anything then there is a problem.
