i7 2600K @ 5Ghz!

Ahhh.... the nice sound of overclocks being discussed. Music to my ears :)

Man if I didn't have my current setup that 2600K on a Gigabyte board would be here now.

Anyways nice overclocks guys. And nice discussion, hopefully some noobs will see this and understand there's a lot of work and thought that goes with overclocking.

Peace

Come April, I'll hopefully have either an i5 or i7, and that ASUS P67 Sabertooth is really catching my eye, in my case :p

Well I'm going to sit on the bench and see what replaces the 1366 chipset and what processors are released for it. Though to be quite honest I can't really see myself upgrading what I already have for at least another year or two. Though I'm sure my photography upgrades will have a lot to say as well

Anyways those new i5's/i7's are nice. Can't wait to see what else Intel has in line :)

You better turn this Sandy Bridge back in and wait until they have fixed it.
It is the chip for the SATAII controllers that is bad, not the CPU.

~Lordbob

This. i've seen people confused about that issue, as long as you keep your devices away from the SATA II ports, you're fine, plus...

Most end-users don't have more than 4 SATA devices (4 being the SATA III ports on the motherboard) so they wouldn't be that much compromised.

I have 2 HDDs and 2 DVD-Drives (and i only use one, i'm thinking about removing it) i mean, i'd rather have all my HDDs (in case that some users have 4) on the SATA III ports and leave the DVD-Drive(s) on the SATA II, since it's not used often :)
im sorry to bump but.. whats this whole story on the sata ports? i read some about it in tomshardware but it was very vague
i have a sabertooth p67.
im using the sata3 ports on raid 0 with ssd's and the sata2 ports for dvdrw and raid 5 with 3x 1tb hdd's. i also have another pciex raid card with 4x1tb raid5 drives...
so.. the one thing i read..w as something about low perfomance.. which im not worried cuz that raid5 only has the games files (games install folder, steam\, origin, etc)
so.. whats happening?

HA! Yes, I haven’t been on Win7 forums in a while. This past year has been very busy. Browsed here for the first time in a while and was surprised to see this thread still active!

Mago,

Sorry I do not have any screen shots of that past overclock. With the configuration I originally posted, temps would reach low 90’s Celsius under a stress test. Keep in mind this was using a “quiet” CPU cooler that was not designed for extreme overclocking. With some further tweaks to the VCore and DRAM voltages I was able to bring the temperatures down to low 80’s C under stress. And by lowering both the frequency and voltage of the DRAM I was able to run a stable 5.3Ghz under stress with temps reaching low 90’s c using the same “quiet” CPU cooler.

My motherboard has been changed since then due to the Sandybridge SATA fault. Same model just newer revision. Also purchased Antec Kuhler H2O 920 cpu cooler with the hopes of reaching that magical 5.5Ghz!! However, as we know, overclocking is all about the synergy of the parts involved - CPU, Motherboard, RAM, PSU and so on. And with this newer revision board I will be lucky to run a stable 4.9Ghz!! Such is life!

let me know how you like the 920, i have been thinking of upgrading mine, currently asetek 550, 920 is bigger rad, and think it would run a little cooler, im just not sure if the upgrade is worth the money. or to get the h100 or 920,

i was able to get 5.0 stable mid to upper 80's stressed and 5.1 appeared stable but i chickened out when the temps got to 92c and stopped the test LOL...

I'm new to OC'ing but SB makes it so easy. I have tried using offset but when it comes to changing VCCIO and other settings i hit a wall at 105 bclock 46x, but the good news is that using offset the temps were a bit lower...so after messing around i may be able to get above 5.0 using offset with cooler temps..
