Yea, I'm going to wait awhile and watch it; if nothing dramatic occurs then the Win 8 release would be a good time to erase I think.

I am willing to bet, that if you run the Intel SSD toolbox (SSD Optimizer) and then leave your PC on overnight at the login screen in safe mode; and then run the bench your results will be noticeably better.

Well, on the Seq. write anyway. Before/After.

Clearly your system is handling your trim command's and built-in garbage collection very well. If it was not, the overnight logged off state would have resulted in a clear-cut improvement. You are operating in a steady-state and all is cool. Keep in mind, too many benches can load your SSD with unnecessary writes.

Once a week Run Windows "Disk Cleanup" as Administrator then immediately run the manual Intel Toolbox Trim function.
That will keep your Intel drive running at top performance.
That is what I do with my Intel 320 120GB.

As Snakeyes pointed out now that that you have run the benchmark software put it aside.....
....and enjoy your SSD.

I am not sure if that is the case. The term garbage collection generally refers to the actions taken by the SSD firmware to clean blocks. The trim command is nothing more than an instruction that identifies blocks that are ready to be cleaned. Intel and all other drives have their unique and proprietary firmware that does the actual cleaning off the blocks facilitated by the trim instructions. Later generation SSD's incorporate wear leveling within this process. As a rule, this cleaning process tends to be activated during periods of low disk activity. That is why, the logged off state can facilitate this process. All SSD drives have to have this type of firmware activity.

According to Intel SSD Forums, Intel drives do not do 'Idle Time garbage Collection'.

Intel 320 wear leveling is continuous so no specific idle time needed for it either.

Most if not all X-25's that will use the Tool Box are the same.

Intels are the only drive on the xtremeforum that will handle the continuous endurance test they are running without a SE (secure erase) or idle time needed by other brands to continue running the endurance app.

They run the Intel Tool Box TRIM command every "X" amount of writes and then restart the endurance app.

They aren't the fastest but they are the cleanest and they have not killed exhausted the ability to read and write of one yet.

Keeping everything clean as you go may be part of the reason the Intels are not faster at reads and writes as others. Just a guess here.
I realize the SF controllers used on the OCZ etc. are a big part but then there are other side effects to SF's higher speeds.
Everything has a trade off.

You can't do everything at once so a trade off to a bit more speed is no idle time for cleaning needed.
Like I said just a guess.

I've done the benches sparingly until the last two days to test the idle-time theory. March (after installation), May, and November before that as I wanted a good distance between after the one taken in May. Thanks for the idle-time idea though as I'd forgotten about it.

Every Sunday I do maintenance (run Disk Cleanup on all drives, Defragmenter on disk drives, Trim on SSD, anti-virus, backup). Gotta keep these moneypits, er, computers in running order.

Speaking of which, it's maintenance time.

Yep, that was the plan. All my storage purchases are SATA III connections now for the next build. I just wish I would have known storage would triple in prices due to fearmongering and inflated speculation from the Thailand flooding. What a farce.

Total score is but the 4K Read/Write is better, that's the really important number.
