I'm doing these kinda things in my spare time, around school work and such, however I should have the grooves in the wood by tomorrow, and upload a picture or 2, showing how it all fits, then there will be a while till the next while I paint them neatly (it will require many coats + sanding so that it doesn't actually look like wood blocks, but rather a solid black block of something that looks like plastic or the likes.

The issue seems to be that the screen on the camera isnt actually any good at showing me blurr on the fine scale =/. Its an old camera too (not old old, but like...2006 ish I think), and I wonder how much of it is down to the actual capture quality of the camera. Anyway, here is the first pic.

You will notice a few things,
1) I was too lazy to turn my computer off for this (I think it would have been a good safety measure to do so, I accidentally put my finger in the fan you see below...and it spins rather fast).
2) the block on the left is on an angle, that's just because its only loosely sitting in there.
3) I need to do something about all the cables from my fan controller.

So you can see its not rocket science, just a very simple block of wood with a groove. However getting that groove just right was challenging...and I'm not sure its perfect. Basically I had the bench saw, and adjusted the height of the blade, running the wood over it, moving it along with each path. It has a guidance arm I used to ensure every block is virtually identical. It took me a little under an hour to be happy with it. but I think it will do nicely. Next step is sanding it smooth, and then painting. I do worry how much the paint will impact on the size of the groove, it would only take a few layers too thick and it would begin to become a tight fit. Because of this I have considered using something like indian ink to stain the wood, so that it still gets its black colour without the thickness of the paint, however this may not look so good. Perhaps some trials are in order.

Very nice, just something that I was wondering about,will that not be too heavy? I am referring to the final product, the wood,with all the paint and so on. By having a few of them in the chassis will individually not be an issue,nor will it be a problem when the chassis is stationed in one spot, but when going to lan parties, I think you will notice it. Unless I am completely wrong here.

Macrocarpa is a strong wood, but not a heavy one. The 4 blocks together weigh 235 grams on my kitchen scale, and that's before they have been cut to final length, I can hardly feel their weight. To be honest, I think I will be saving on weight, weighing up the 2, the cases actual chassis for the racks is heavier than the 4 blocks. As for the paint, that shouldn't be that heavy I wouldn't think.

Ha ha, I do see your point but I don't think it should be an issue. If you read through the page you will see that here in New Zealand, the tree grows well without other natural inhibitors, and it is often grown for ornamental purposes, windbreaks, and sometimes for timber. I'm not using the remains of a 2000 year old macrocarpa forest from California incase that is raising eyebrows

Ah, I didn't actually see that part. It seemed like an awfully long page to read through about a tree.. Lol.

But if it was a page about a big shiny graphics card on the other hand....... That's a whole different story. Especially if it could make me coffee and wash my dishes.

An update to mine. New Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 mainboard, i5 2500k and 8 GB (2x4) of Ripjaws X 1600 MHz CL8 RAM. Plus some cable cleaning up and a Hyper 612 cooler. Currently only overclocked to 4.3 GHz.

Yeah I have a bad back and it is a bear to lift that case up and down. It has sound insulation that weighs a ton too!

alright folks.
i was still not happy with my cable management in my case so i a new case was a must. originally i wanted the aerocool x-predator but its a tad bigger than i thought lol. so i bought a corsair carbide 500R black. that comes today and the other fans 2moz. so after the weekend il get everythin swapped over
will get some pics up on monday probably.

i have a little dilema tho, i recently installed an icy box and want this to go in my new case. however i cant find anywhere that sell the mesh drive bays with a 3.5 cutout.
there are plenty of coverters to fit the icybox into the bay but im a bit of a perfectionist so it has to match. the only place ive seen one is on a HAF 912 but coolermaster dont sell them as spares. i cant find any from corsair.
this is gonna proppa do my nut in lol.

anyone have any idea where i could find one?
as always any n all help is very much apreciated
