Solved BSOD using google chrome and some steam games

So, I have been having random BSOD's for a while now, it happened a few times the day i bought it then seemed to work for a week or so. Now the problem is back. The most recent times have been while playing skyrim and also while using google chrome.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OEM. Running 8GB of ram. The system is only 2 weeks old, bought from NCIX. I am not the best with computers, so please be patient with me.

Used SF Diag Tool v4 (recommended on seven forums) to retrieve my files.

I wouldnt do too much (you might void you warranty). One thing I might do is a check disk

Thanks for the quick reply zigzag3143. At the moment i am running the second disk check on the hard drive that does not have windows install on it. The first disk check, on my SSD with windows came up with zero problems. I will run the SFC once this check is done. I would assume that the SSD would have had the problem since it has the OS on it, is that right?

Again thank you and i will post my results from the next two checks as soon as they are done.

I am fairly certain both the HD's are ok. I suspect there is registry corruption. Do you by chance use some sort of reg cleaner? Or are you overclocking?

I do not have a reg cleaner at the moment, I would have to buy one, wouldn't I? I have not set up my computer for overclocking, so unless it has done that itself I am not.

No you misunderstand me. I dont want you to run a reg cleaner, I was saying it might be the cause of the registry corruption.

Haha, Dyslexia for the win! Well, I have an update from the second disc scan last night. I am currently at work so I can't do anything at the moment. The scan was taking hours to finish and i ended up going to bed well before it was done. When i woke up this morning the computer was in sleep mode. I entered my password to log in from sleep and immediately the computer restarted. Is this normal? Because it informed me that it did not shutdown properly and prompted me to choose either safemode or normal launch. Does this mean that the disc could be damaged? Unfortunately i did not see the info box after the scan because i was asleep, is there a way to look at this scan now?

Me too. I am a bit dense atm. Well run the chkdsk when you can I dont think they are a problem. Have you still been crashing? If so upload the DMP files.

That will have to be later tonight. I am thinking that It crashed sometime during the disk check, but i don't know for sure. I think i will run the System File Checker before i try running the disk check again. Also, Is it a bad idea to use the computer, say play skyrim, while the Disk check is running?

All computers can multi-task but the game will run slow because of all the read writes to the HD.

Okay, so i ran the SFC and it came back with a result saying it found errors but could not repair some of them. I opened the CBS file and found what, to me, was a complete gibberish. I am not sure if i should share this file with people or not so i will hold off for now. Any suggestions?

If the files in CBS are important you may have to do a repair install?

Most are a "Chinese dictionary" which if they arent important to you can be ignored. There are about 6 "DLL" files that should be repaired by running a repair install.

I ran the SFC scan and it came up with the same 'found problems but couldnt fix all of them' deal. I have attached the CBS file here. I am hoping that these are only the minor problems again, or else i may go back to the manufacturer and get them to fix it for me.

IF SFC showed errors it could not fix on a clean install (it was a clean install, not an image restore, or upgrade correct?) that is a bad sign.

This was from a legit MS win 7 dvd right?

BTW the CBS.logo is > 10 MB and notepad wont open it.

Yes this was from a legit MS Windows 7 dvd. It came with my computer, but it is the OEM style, not the retail type. As for the CBS file, I can open it on my computer. I am not sure what to do about that. Here it is again.

Ok here is what you do, Open in notepad. click find and in the find field put cannot repair>find next. "inf" files are not critical but other files are more important.

First one I found is hcw72DTV.sys. keep finding next and looking at the files. where ever possible re-install the drivers.

Probably easier to clean install but your call.
