Can somebody give me an easy way on how to change my IP address and Default Gateway? I tried to google my problem but their instructions are too complicated for a newbie like me.

I want to change my default gateway from 192.168.254.100 to 192.168.1.1 in order to access my router. Will it work? Please give me suggestions, I really wanted to put a password on my router
:(

Btw, this is my ip configurations

You can connect to your router by connecting an ethernet cable from your computer to the router, then on the address line of your browser type "192.168.1.1" (without the quotes) - this should let you into your router GUI where you can change the default password which is normally "admin" and "password" or "admin" and "admin".

Is this what you want to do ?

You have DHCP enabled meaning the router should issue the IP and Gateway for you. Your Gateway is 192.168.254.1, so if the router and Windows is working correctly that would suggest the routers IP is 192.168.254.1.

Try typing 192.168.254.1 into your browser.

Sorry missed this

Most routers use either "192.168.0.1" (e.g. Netgear) or "192.168.1.1" (e.g. Lynksys) and have default login and passwords of "admin" and "password" or just "admin" and "admin". If neither work using a cable you may need to use the install CD that came with it to access the setup page.

From what I read Zone Alarm can do this to a system on it's own, although I can't say what caused the problem in your case.

Because you are locked out of your router you will need to perform a hard reset on the router to get it back to it's original settings and default gateway. At that point you will be able to access the router again using the old default gateway.

I have no idea what kind of router you are using so can't give more specific information but you can either unplug the router for ten minutes or use the reset button. :)

....My router's default ip is 192.168.1.1...
How do you know this? What is the brand and model of the router?

BTW: consider not using light purple as your text, it does not show up for some people reading the forum.

oopss, sorry for that, I already changed my font color

Anyways, the ip 192.168.254.1 is the ip address of my modem, but I'm using a router (Linksys WRT54G2 V1)

this is the picture

I cannot access to that page 'coz I guess it is not a part of my customer rights lol and I thinks the guy who configured the router intentionally did that because he said that the internet provider (Globe Broadband) will be able to detect my wireless setup and that's illegal he said. I don't know why the internet providers here in our country do not allow their customers to set their own wi-fi zone and you have to pay them extra fee for your extended connection.

Can you give me solution/s to my problem? Does changing my Ip address and default gateway will do the trick in order to access my default router ip (192.168.1.1)

You can try assigning a static IP address to your computer (maybe 192.168.1.100)
Then set the default gateway to 192.168.1.1
Then try and "surf" to 192.168.1.1
...but the router could be setup to use another IP other than the default one.

It sounds like your modem is doing all of the work (connecting to the internet, assigning IP addresses...) so - if the steps above do not work for you, you could try resetting the router. But you would need to know how to set it back up to work with your modem/ISP (e.g. turn off DHCP). If you opt to reset the router, make sure that you can get online just using your modem so that you can get help with the router if need be.

How will I set my IP address to static and change my default gateway? I already tried resetting my router but I got no luck.

As far as I know, you would need default gateway access. Since he did say that it is not allowed to access the default gateway, access would require unethical methods. Since that is illegal as mentioned, default gateway access cannot be obtained legally, thus you wouldn't be able to change any IP configuration (Default Gateway Address + the IP assigned). I don't think manually changing your IP address will work, it would require the router to assign static addresses. You could try asking them if they could change it.

I think the internet provider will not allow me to do that or will ask extra fee for that.
About changing my ip and default gateway, is this how I will do it ?

That is forcing your computer to rely on given data, rather than requesting the router for a unique IP Address. Usually, manually assigning an IP address wouldn't work. It would simply not register to the ARP Table.

If you could tell us how you solved it (changed your IP address), that would be nice.

The guy who was asked to set-up our router inserted the main internet cable in the first port instead of inserting it in the "internet port" of the router. So, I tried it inserting there and it worked; no need of changing my ip address or whatever because after I plugged it and typed "ipconfig /all", the default gateway automatically changed to 192.168.1.1

I curse that guy for not setting my router properly

That means this guy plugged the modem into the LAN port on the router rather than the WAN port, hmmm that's not gunna work too well. No need to assign any IP's with a working router because with DHCP enabled it's all automatic.

It's too bad we can't see that sort of problem from here. :sarc:

I had the same problem with it taking me to my internet supplier. My internet supplier is BT, if yours is the same click 'configure' that is to the right of 'static ip' and then fill in the password. Someone before mentioned the possible passwords which are:
Username: User Name Password: Password
Username: admin Password: admin
Username: admin Password: <blank>
Or if they don't work visit: Router Passwords
