I had deleted a user account on the laptop. There is an Admin account on the laptop. When I restart the machine, it tells me that the username and password are incorrect. It still shows the username of the account that was deleted

Hello Mckeehs, and welcome to Seven Forums.

How did you go about deleting the user account?

What accounts did you have before deleting this one?

If you would, please post a screenshot when you open User Accounts (Control Panel) and click on Manage another account to see what accounts show up there as well. :)

Deleted User Account

I went into User Accounts, seletced the account titled Sr. Pat Lipinski and selected Delete Account. I selected Delete Files.

I restarted laptop and got the message that the username and password are incorrect. When I click OK, the username of plipinski appears and the password box.

There is no plipinski user account any where visible on the laptop.

I am unable to get a screen shot at this time

Is the plipsinski account the one you wanted deleted? We don't know the people that use your laptop.

See if this solves the problem:

Start button > Search box
Type in or cut and paste the following without the quotes:
"control userpasswords2"
Click: OK
Highlight the User Account that you want Windows 7 to automatically login.
Uncheck: Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer
Click: Apply
The Automatically Log On window will appear, again verify the correct User Account is showing, if not, key in the correct User Account.
Input your password or leave blank.
OK, OK to save and close.
Restart the computer to test.

HTH

HTH

I know this thread is dated; yet, I am having the exact same problem; however, when I type "control userpasswords2" (minus quotes), I get "no items match your search"

When I type "netplwiz" and get that box, a user other than the administrator I am logged in as, and also not the one I am trying to get to go away, is highlighted, and it will not allow me to highlight anything else.

Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

I think I got this sorted in a way that I honestly did not expect to work at all --- I created a new account with the exact same name as the one I had deleted; I then restarted to see what would happen and instead of all that scary "password/user does not exist" foolishness, it automatically logged on to the "deleted/new" account.

Staying logged in as this problem account (administrator), I was then able to assign the user that I wanted to be the automatic log-on account.

I restarted to see if it worked and it did; so, I re-deleted the problem account, restarted, and it is still working as I wanted.

This may not work for anyone else, but it did work for me.

Windows 7 Home Premium, for what it is worth.
