Windows 7 Orb Changer - Screen now black

I have been customizing my PC and downloaded the highly-rated Windows 7 orb changer here: Windows 7 Start Orb Changer v4 by =Kishan-Bagaria on deviantART I then downloaded this start orb set: Black Series Start Buttons by ~MustBeResult on deviantART and then used the Orb Changer to try to load it. At first I tried "replace by patching memory" and it did not work, even after restart. Then, I tried "replace by editing resources" and got a prompt saying "file not found" (the file was in a folder on Desktop). I thought if I restarted the computer I might have better luck. Now after I log in, the entire screen is black -- just a the cursor which you can move (i.e. not frozen). It does this on safe mode as well. Ctrl+Alt+Del does not bring up anything, but does on Safe Mode. I restarted before installing the Orb Changer and did not do anything else during that session, so there is nothing else that could have caused it. I would give additional specs, but I do not have them memorized (this is my alternate laptop) and I am obviously in a bit of a bind. Would appreciate any help possible. Thanks. :(

Try going to safe mode and when your loged, hold the windows key and press R. Type cmd and press enter, when in command prompt type SFC /scannow and let it scan. This will search your windows installation for changed or broken files and will bring you back your old orb and unpatch the system to the default files for the themes and when it's done do a restart. If it doesn't work then come back and we will trouble shoot some more and try to find the source of the problem.

This did not work. Of note, it does take a noticable longer time to load after typing in password (i.e. welcome screen stays on for about 15 seconds when it is usually instant, then the black screen).

I am able to Ctrl+Alt+Del in regular mode now. I will keep that up if you need me to do anything there. Thanks.

If you need, you may try it also ... http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139810-sfc-scannow-run-command-prompt-boot.html .

Expected that it will revert your windows explorer back to its default state, and you will be able to log on . If still troubles, run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html?ltr=S , but most probably it will not be needed.

Run the orb changer as administrator. Browse to the custom ORB you are trying to apply using the program. and click teh apply button. You may need to do it twice sometimes, for the source files being patched.

I use the resource edit method, and it works nicely.

I was able to run SFC /scannow and it repaired corrupted files. I am now able to get in and it has reset my start button and theme. I created a system restore point and reported this to the developer. Thanks for the assistance, guys.

Well, maybe we aren't out of the clear yet. Since it reset my visual styles, I reran 'Universal Theme Patcher' and patched three files to change back to my old theme -- Shine 2.0 for Windows 7 by *zainadeel on deviantART

After patching, restarted and got a "explorer.exe" fail. I am in safe mode right now doing another scan and then I will try a System Restore. Any idea why I am having these problems?
