Windows Failed Updates

I have sought help online but all I usually get is the token, "Run anti virus software." or "Update Windows."
All that has been done but I did find a real post here from over a year ago that got real help.

I can upload my "dump" file if that will help, but please don't just refer me to another quick generic answers page. This is a specific problem which just like the last post requires a specific answer.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
Please attach the DMP files to your next post not to post one.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.
To ensure minidumps are enabled:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hi dollanganger, welcome to 7F! :)

Along with what carwiz found out, your .dmp mentions adobelmsvc.exe

CLASSPNP.SYS is a file that lets windows control your hardware such as; printer, sound card, monitor, cdrom, modem, mouse, etc. .

adobelmsvc.exe is part of the license management service that is used to make sure you are not using a pirated copy of their software. See above link.

These two work hand-in-hand, and when everything checks out, PS CS2 loads, if not it will crash your machine.
So I suspect something has either changed on your machine or one or the other or both files have become corrupt.

When you tried to repair, and then remove PS did you follow these instructions? Photoshop Help | Install/uninstall Photoshop CS2
Did you try to remove PS CS2 while in Safe Mode?

This is only speculation on my part, it would be helpful if you would fill out your specs, and run a proper jcgriff BSOD report like the previous members have suggested.

Questions:

-Anak mentions adobelmsvc.exe This MAY be the problem! On 5-10-12 I attempted to open a secure PDF file in Photoshop I was warned against doing! Of course I didn’t listen to reason. This file was never on my harddrive but the problem remains. Is there a way to correct and repair or remove adobelmsvc.exe?
-Anak also mentions Adobe’s instructions to remove Photoshop. They seem to begin with attempting to reinstall Photoshop. Will this cause further problems?
-Is there a way to remove Photoshop by erasing its program files?
-What’s the best step? Trying to remove Photoshop or fixing the adobelmsvc.exe? I will not proceed until advised.
-What is JCGRIFF?

Answers to Anak’s questions:
-Under control panel I did attempt to repair Photoshop. The repair didn’t crash the system but afterward the same problem remained.

-I did attempt to uninstall in Safe Mode but Safe Mode would not allow me to uninstall a program.

In the link that Anak gave, you want to go through the removal process first, then do the install process. That should resolve the adobelmsvc.exe problem. The link I refer to is: Photoshop Help | Install/uninstall Photoshop CS2. Follow the steps for the Windows removal process and then for the Windows installation process.

For the JCGRIFF report, follow the http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html to create the report.

This may be related to your CS2 problem. The thread starter is also having problems installing Adobe Photoshop only its CS3.

writhziden gave adequate instructions to answer your concerns about adobelmsvc.exe, and the jcgriff report, but if you are still having trouble stop, and try this, how do you fix error code 0x80004005?, follow the second post by James Lupi.

To Run a command prompt as Administrator see, Here's How Step 1: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/783-elevated-command-prompt.html

Restart your machine, and then try to complete the CS2 repair or removal, and re-installation.
What you are trying to do is re-register a .dll file.

Make sure in step two of how do you fix error code 0x80004005? You use the proper Folder location, either the 32bit or the 64bit that matches your Operating System (OS).

OK a few updates from last time:
-I ran a search on my PC for adobelmsvc.exe and only found it under an “RKill” log file from October 2011. “RKill” was a program I ran for another computer at that time. I ran RKill again today but it didn’t come up in the new log file.
-I found adobelmsvc.exe under the “Adobe” “Common Files” “Services.” Says it hasn’t been modified since 12-10-09.
-Adobe’s suggestions for removing Photoshop were not helpful as they all involved attempting to uninstall Photoshop which causes the screen crash!
-I have not run James Lupi’s suggestion as it seem to refer to Vista not Windows 7?

RKill only stops services it should not remove any files, that is why you don't see it in the RKill log, but you still have it in the common files.

Go to services http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2495-services-start-disable.html, and see if you can find adobelmsvc or Adobe license management service, start it if it's not, and change its Startup Type to Automatic.

Also go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
Click on Turn Windows Features On or Off in the left pane, and let it populate the list.
When it is done look for Microsoft .NET framework 3.5.1. Make sure it has a blue highlight in the checkbox to the left. Just a highlight, not a check-mark.

Then try again to repair or remove, and re-install CS2. If you still get the screen crash we will try the James Lupi file registration.
There are no concerns about it seeming to be for Vista, as Vista instructions are compatible with 7.

If all this does not work, then we will have to un-install, and then re-install all .NET framework programs you have on your machine.

Please bear with me. I’m my tech savvy is limited.
What is it exactly I should do?
Following your detailed instructions (thanks for the links I’d be lost without them) I was able to find services. “Adobe LM Service” is marked as “manual.” You want me to switch to “start?” I don’t see an “automatic” option.
Also note, I am not logged in as Administrator. There is only one user on my PC “(my real name)”.

Sure this won't muck up anything?

In the lower red square click on start.

In the upper red square click on the down arrow to the right of Automatic, that should open, and you can select Automatic.
This is probably where your seeing Manual, click on the down arrow to the right of Manual, and select Automatic.

It shouldn't matter if your logged in as Admin or not.

If it does muck it up, we just have to go back and change it back.

Just like ET "I'll be right here."

Anak
My screens looked a bit different that the one you described.

(Tried to show you a print screen of my PC but without Photoshop I can only paste it into a Word File.)

But I changed it to automatic and hit “apply”

Result Photoshop still crashed. And when I restarted.
The Mircosoft function you mentioned is “Checked” “NOT blue.” Underneath it are two subfolders “Windows Communications Foundation HTTP Activation” and “Windows Communications Foundation non HTTP Activation.” Both are checked.
When only one is checked, it turns to “blue” what should I do here?
