webmeister,
Welcome to SevenForums!

I'd like for you to fill out System Specs fully.

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
(left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

ADD the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
“system manufacturer” block, for example,
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.
======================================================

For ease of use, I prefer Speccy. For the most complete info, then you will be impressed by SIW.
Be sure to give the full info on your os as explained in the write-up.

Did you switch to AHCI before or after you installed Windows? I've found that if I do it after (because I forgot and my BIOS defaults to IDE), Windows does not like booting from the drive.

AHCI Install

Did you switch to AHCI before or after you installed Windows? I've found that if I do it after (because I forgot and my BIOS defaults to IDE), Windows does not like booting from the drive.

1st - did install windows 7 without changing to AHCI in the BIOS
2nd - after discovery, did the registry change as shown here How to enable AHCI mode for windows 7 and Vista without format. | Bourlas Blog
3rd - Then changed the BIOS to AHCI

Guess that should have been ok but still massively slow.

You updated specs do not reflect the install of SP1.

Have you installed SP1?

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
Also note that if you changed to AHCI after installing Windows, you should think about Windows 7 optimization, and after also re-run the WinSat tests so Windows "knows" that you're booting an SSD from an AHCI controller and adjusts accordingly.

If getting current on patches (including SP1!!!) doesn't help, you can always take a startup/boot trace to see what's going on.

Something is wrong with this SSD. What make/model is it.

I have been around SSDs a lot and never saw something like this. And from your description, you did all the right steps.

The only culprit I can think of is the SSD controller.

Slow windows issue resolved lesson learned

Problem Solved.

One of the new RAM I installed was bad.
My BIOS needed update bad - probably to accept Windows 7 & increased RAM.
Sound card needed update to windows 7 capability.

Lesson Learned.
I had installed SSD, RAM & Windows 7 in one fell swoop. Do thing one at a time...

thank you
