Hi,

Recently, not sure exactly when but my Blu-Ray drive meant missing from Windows. At the same a drive letter for a software based drive went missing too. There is no hardware for this second drive. The driver allows me to mount ISO images easily in Explorer.

I spotted in the hardware area of Control Panel that the drivers were not loaded successfully. I tried removing the hardware from control panel. After rebooting windows tries to re-install the drivers but fails.

I also tried to update drivers but Windows tells me I have the latest driver.

The drive is : Optiarc BC5600-S (slot loaded)

The BIOS recognises the driver and I have the latest OEM bios installed.

Any ideas?

I have a little more info.

I booted into a Ubuntu Live CD and my drive was available. This has confirmed to me the hardware is not at fault.

Both drives I refer to above are using the
cdrom.sys file.

Version :
6.1.7601.17514
In Driver File Details :
6.1.7600.16385(win7_rtm.090713-1255)

I'm guessing this file is corrrupt. What's the best way of fixing the file?

Try running System Restore and restore to a time before this started: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

Thanks for your comments. I found the solution in the end before trying system restore.

I had to modify the registry by removing Upper/Lower filters from :

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]

I'm happy I got it working without reinstalling.
