Well absolutely, I agree, so what do we do first?

Sounds like I did misunderstand you.

Could you spell out for me, simpleton-style what I should do now?

Thank you,

Richard

Hi,

Tried multiple times to safemode my way in, but windows 8 doesn't have it, and when I selected windows 7 and the recovery 7, after the restart F8 wouldn't respond.

So basically no safemode.

Can I get to it with a windows 7 bootable disc? Perhaps the preinstallation enviromnent will lead me to safemode somehow.

By the way, what do you want me to do with AIK and macrium reflect?

Richard

WAIK not needed. Macrium reflect is a perfect backup tool. use that http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73828-imaging-free-macrium.html but not now!! First fix the problem and sysprep

Hi Kaktussoft,

Yes lenovo, but yes there are programs/data/docs/videos.

I installled windows 7 after buying this machin 3 weeks ago, and could only get windows file transfer to work on it. All the images I'd burned from previous laptop (not a lenovo) didn't work - that's why, after I had reinstalled windows from fresh, and then files transfer, and then reinstalled - one after one, all my programs, and then customised my settings for each program, I was finally fed up and tried to make a sysprep back up.

will try the f8 thing that way.

Richard

Hi,

Ok, no luck with F8 in anyway, even if using arrow keys and not selecting the system.

more information for you:

1. The windows 7 system option in the boot stage has disapppeared now, leaving only windows 8 and windows 7 recovery, so you will probably know more about that than me.

2. I tried again with windows boot cd to go to recovery/restore/repair options. Tried to repair Windows 7 recovery system but got the following message:

THEVERSION OF SYSTEM RECOVERY OPTIONS IS NOT COMPATABLE WITH THE VERSION OF WINDOWS YOU ARE TRYING TO REPAIR. TRY USING A RECOVERY DISC THAT IS COMPATABLE WITH THIS VERSION OF WINDOWS.

Perhaps it is telling us that there is a sysprep recovery disc somewhere, again, you would know about this.

I did all 3 command lines, in elevated command prompt in windows 8, all ran successfully but I don't know what to post you and what to delete because I don't know where to find whatever it was that I we did? Nothing popped up, or appeared, there was nothing extra on the desktop, ......just the command prompt.

If you want me to find that key in the registry and copy and send it to you then I could do that.

Richard

I'm sorry can you quickly just explain how I can post you the tempkey.reg?

It sounds easy enough.

As I say, I put in all 3 command lines you gave me in elavated cmd prmpt, and all 3 were successful.

Where can I find the tempkey.reg? In the registry presumably.

Could you please confirm.

Thank you,

Richard

p.s Is it looking less likely that I can get my system 7 back now? Should I start by installing windows 7 fresh, and do another transfer wizard unpack and load all programs individually again?

Thanks

1.Don't know why
2. What windows boot cd did you use? win7 with sp1 included? If win7 install dvd is WITHOUT SP1 an your current win7 system is WITH SP1 it fails. uninstall SP1 first which is impossible. Or use a win7 installation dvd with sp1 included Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life
But startup repair doesn't fix this problem!! So forget it

Hi,

I know you are probably busy Kaktussoft.

If you can let me know quickly how to get the tempkey.reg to you, I can help you to help me, and can move forward.

At the moment, I can't get to my microsoft outlook, which has daily tasks, numbers, calendars and general running of my life. I'm stuck here at the moment, just waiting to see what you post next.

Thanks

Richard

Post screenshot of disk management as well (with all fields visible).
I wanna know from which partition you boot and where bootmenu is. How did you reinstall win7 btw (from recovery partition or win7 install dvd)?

Don't run or double click tempkey.reg just attach the file to this post
run disk management and do print screen (or even better ALT+printscreen). Now open paint and paste it. And save it.

Here is the screen shot.

As for the tempkey.reg I didn't run it, I just put in the command lines.

reg load HKLM\tempkey d:\windows\system32\config\system
reg export HKLM\tempkey\setup tempkey.reg
reg unload HKLM\tempkey

All were successful.

I'll send a screen shot of what happens.

Thanks
