Solved New HDD, are the temps too high?

Hello there hardware experts

I just got a new hard disk today. Are the temps alright or too high? If its high, how do I improve it?

Images from Speccy and Acronis which has something to say there.

What happens if you run it with the sides taken off the case? Do the temps go down?

(FYI: I am away from home and stuck with the world's worst internet connection. I can disappear at any second!)

If the temps don't drop with more air in the case, then I would next suggest running WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics, just to rule out a bad reading by Acronis.

If the HDD is no good, then you should have that report anyway for RMA.

Temp doesn't look too hot compared to my old setup, also, the sensor could be bad. I had a drive reporting a high temp and it was cool to the touch.

I haven't opened the case, but I'm running the diagnostics.

Normally its 44 but since that thing is running, its on 48

I had fans sucking air across my drives in the pic above and my current case has a large fan blowing across them.

Is there any fan blowing across your drive? If not, is there provisions for mounting a fan that can blow across the drive?

Well there's no space for inserting a fan near the drive

On most cases, the drives are mounted low and there would be space in front of the drive cage for a fan.

Note the clear colored fan at the front of the case (bottom right)

The PSU on my pc is downwards above them are the spaces for the HDD and DVDR.
I would've uploaded a pic but can't do that now

How close to the psu is the hard drive? And is it directly above the psu?
The heat from the psu may be making the hard drive run warmer.

I didn't want to upload a picture because the photo quality sucks but here it is anyway.

1 is where the DVDR is
2 is where the HDD is
3 is where the fan is located, the fan is facing downwards I can see it beneath

Those temps arent to high, but you can if you want get an aftermarket hdd cooler for it. Newegg.com - Hard Drive Coolers And I "edited" your pic abit, now it fits

Well yes the drive can be moved one slot down. It used to be there before (the hard disk I had earlier) and I changed that because it used to stick to the wires of the PSU. and ummmmmmm I don't wanna upload any pics, you can see whats going on with the one picture I uploaded already

I kept my pc off for about 50 minutes and surprisingly this is what acronis shows now.

Glad I could help out Yussi!

In reality you were never in any danger, a spinner drive is OK till 50C or 122F. As Zephyr Rob mentioned, the temp sensors aren't real accurate.
