Try system restore if you can get there and you can from safe mode. System restore will work, unless its your boot partition that is corrupt.

I am nervous re: system restore. I only have one restore point and this is what I originally tried and it didn't work.

If you only have one and it did not work, it will not work this time either.

I just looked at your reports, it may be problems with your graphic card driver from Nividia.
Thanks to Z3r, you can get into safe mode.
See if you can update your graphics card driver in safe mode

Here is your report, I have bolded the driver in question

You actually gave us two reports, the first gave no information, it was corrupt.
The second indicated graphics. One report is almost never enought to fix the BSOD problem.

My apologies. I had never used that utility tool before and thought it had finished when it hadn't.

Gents I am back in action after the GPU driver upgrade. Can you believe it was something so simple??

Well all I can say is you 2 are bloody fantastic and I really do appreciate you taking time out of your lives to help me, a relatively useless PC user, through a dark patch.

The irony is, in my job I sell millions of pounds worth of Microsoft software (inc Win 7) every year. But clearly cannot use the thing!

Have a great remainder of the weekend and I really really appreciate your assistance.

Now back it up with the free Macrium Reflect so you never have this again.
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
Also this is a good time to get your key using Magic JellyBean, as suggested.
