Can i upgrade from the 7000 build to a new buld without losing any installed program/drivers or anything like that? Currently, i can't get my computer to boot properly and i want to change to a later build of windows 7 anyway, so i can do it just by upgrading?

You cant get your computer to boot properly because build 7000 is beta and has timed out. It started doing that abt 5 days ago, right? Anyway, You can upgrade but you are going to import all of the problems from the old sydtem to the new one. Microsoft, and most of the ppl here strongly suggest doing a clean install. Yes its a pain, but it will save you having to re-install every time your old system problems crop up

Ahh okay. What do you mean by "Older Problems" you mean things that have been fixed in newer builds? As long as i can get rid of the booting problem i don't care. It's still booting in safe mode, because thats what i'm on now.

As long as i can update and fix the boot errors i'm not too bothered about carrying any old problems across.

the booting problem is because its 7000. Old problems include, anything you have installed and uninstalled has left remnants, any change to registry will be in the new build. You should be looking for build 7600 to upgrade to.

Here is a simple way to see if your importing garbage. Goto event viewer (type event viewer in search) and look in the app tab to see is there are errors, and there are. those errors are going to haunt you in the new build

None of us like doing clean installs, bu there is a reason why we do.

Anyway

good luck with the upgrade

Thanks for that mate, i'll take a look, if there are no errors or anything i'll upgrade, if not i'll do a clean install. I take it if i upgrade, all installed programs and all files will stay?

Thanks
Alex
