Solved Unable to boot from battery power

I'm suddenly experiencing this problem. I'm unable to boot my laptop from my battery. But if I connect the power chord, I'm able to start it. There is no problem with restart, hibernate and other options on battery though. I've also installed batterycare to check the battery condition. It shows no problem with battery condition. Can anyone help me out with this problem?

Do you have access to a digital multimeter my friend as it will show you if the thing is ok on voltage or not .

Having said that it might e holding a voltage but no current capabilities - how old is it? as Lithium batteries degrade from the day they are manufactured mate. On average that can be around three years. I personally would not rely on the battery health readout an actual check is best.

By he way depending on the make and contact set up check out too if there is any debris down inside those slots either in the battery (usual) or the machine.

Well it shouldn't cost much at a tech or any shop that sells batteries rsn to stick a meter on it for you.

Just because it is only 3 years old doesn't mean it should be ok mate.

The thing is if it will not boot from the battery there is only two real causes 1. the battery is dead 2. the machines battery connection point is not connected to the motherboard supply point. I think it is the battery that is at fault unless that test wherever you can get one done comes up with no fault.

Can you send a pic of the battery and what machine are you operating? Some specs would be very handy.

What happens if you start the system connected to AC then disconnect the AC. Does the system shut down almost instantly? Or last a very short time before it shuts down, 5-20 minutes?

If either of those things happen then you need a New battery as it does not hold enough charge to keep the system running. And when starting the system it uses the most power to get everything running so with a weak battery it simply does not have enough charge/power to start everything up.

I find that sometimes this will help; Shutdown the computer, remove the battery for about 30 minutes then reinstall and let it charge for about 1 hour, then turn on the computer.

There's no problem with the battery once the system is on. Once I plug the ac and start the system, and remove the ac, the battery works just fine as always. The only problem is with boot Thanks for your help

Look you are probably just as well getting a new battery and try that rsn it could possibly be that the battery has enough charge to hold on but just not enough to boot from.

It's a bit like say a car the crank current is a real test out for the battery once going it has enough just to keep it running I know that it also has an alternator suppling current but you get my drift? Your battery just has lost that "crank" power.

Dude, I just tried my battery on another lap of my model and it booted perfectly normal. But when I used the battery from that laptop on mine, it didn't boot as usual. I had to connect my AC supply again.
So, I assume there is no problem in my battery right?
Also I hope there's no problem in connection with motherboard power line, coz if that's the case, my lap won't be able to use the battery as usual na?
So, what I think is there's some problem with the connection point of the battery to the system or there may be some debris. So, Shall I go and check this out with SONY service centre?
Also, does this have anything to do with any problems in windows? I don't think windows has anything to do with booting and battery connection. Yet, I'm not sure

Ok my friend you might just have what is known as dry joint somewhere along that connection from the battery to the board.

Ok what model is it? and is it still under warranty and do you have any soldering skills - not being funny but there are folks around who have never had to do this before.

Ok mate I'll have a look around at what you need to get inside this machine and what to check. If your friend can solder then hopefully he/she will have a multimeter too because you will need to check continuity a really good light source and maybe even a fairly strong magnifying glass.

If you do need to get inside it would also be a good idea to have some form of pic taking to hand. Now while I am on that subject how about putting your specs on your profile it really helps when we go to check things out hence me asking you what the model was OK

Meant to add Speccy is a good app for finding the specs out too and is handy for checking the temps and stuff like activation codes etc
