Should I buy windows 7 or windows 8?

So I'm probably going to go get the Asus g75 on saturday and I don't know if I should get the windows 8 version or the windows 7 version. What are the advantages/disadvantages of getting each.

If you are buying the system brand new, make sure you have a choice, or atleast that it comes with Windows 7 with a cheap upgrade option to Windows 8.

I recently bought an HP Envy 4, and bought the $15 Windows 8 upgrade. I don't know when or if I plan to install WIndows 8 on it, but I have it (cheap) just in case.

Best way to do it. I can afford a $15 mistake if it comes to that, but not being locked into a crappy OS is worth much more.

Just get it with Windows 7.............I can almost guarantee you won't want Windows 8 on that kind of laptop. I think it's worth it to get it with Win7 and wait to see if Win8 flops and they try to give it away later on lol

I would say that Win7 is for real computer (desktop or notebook) while Win8 is more suited to phones and tablets.
But a better option would be to try it yourself. Download the trial version on Win8 and see if you like it.

You are probably right as far as PCs are concerned. But hopefully they will make up on the mobile devices. I would hate to see MS to go down. A Linux or Apple future is not so bright either.

What makes anyone think that MS will ever make "another real operating system", Windows 9, 10 or otherwise?

What would cause that to happen, unless Win 8 is widely regarded as a flop beyond Windows ME? Who knows, it may be less of a flop than us whiners think.

I'd like to believe mouse and keyboard types will not be treated like second-class citizens, but I'm wondering if the trend toward touch screen devices is so strong that we are doomed and that Win 7 is the high point for all time for traditional desktops.

How much would you wager that Win 9 will not be more of the same?

I don't think it would take very much to make "us whiners" happy. Win8 is a decent operating system - I think. It is mostely the UI that alienates us. That could be fixed by making the start menu more mouse friendly. Those tiles are not optimal for the mouse operation.

I absolutely agree.

But the fact that MS at the highest levels chose not to adapt the UI to traditional users tells me that MS thinks the mouse and keyboard are permanently on the wane.

Unless you think Windows 9 will be a reversion to traditional form, but what is the evidence of that?
