Thanks for PMing me the link to this thread :) Here is how to fix your problem:

Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log


You will probably be shown the error code 0x8024200D after performing this fix, if so, please download and install the update from this link. It must be downloaded using Internet Explorer.

many thanks for the files.
I transferred the files and ran the surt and below is the result.when i tried then to run windows update it didnt work but reported the same original error not the one you posted.
I then downloaded the update(which wasnt the right one):)but from the link i was able to get it:D.
that installed successfully and im now up to date.many thanks for that.
does the check look ok?

Could you run the SURT again please? And post the CheckSUR.persist.log. It is reporting that 4 files haven't been fixed and I can't seem to find these four in the log. Glad to hear you were able to update though :) We better fix these problems now though because they might kick up a fuss in the future.

Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log


You will probably be shown the error code 0x8024200D after performing this fix, if so, please download and install the update from this link. It must be downloaded using Internet Explorer.

hi tom.
at the time i wasnt quite sure whether i posted the right log.i think the last one was a copy of the very 1st i posted.
the current one is below and its the one i ran after the last surt and before i manually downloaded the missing update and installed it.
it looks ok and says at the bottom that it has fixed 4 errors but if you wouldnt mind having a look just to check. if i need to run the surt again, i will.
also is the problem fixed? or will i have to wait until the next security update is released?.

Hi scorzeze,

The log that you have posted is fine :) When the system update readiness tool (SURT) is run, it saves the information to a log file, the CheckSUR.log and it also appends the latest log to the end of the text in the CheckSUR.persist.log. So the CheckSUR.persist.log is all of the logs from the previous runs (even if you run it more than once, I'll still see whether my fix worked) saved in chronological order.

Your log is showing no further problems and has replaced my files without a hitch :)

As for knowing whether it has worked, there is no reason for it to not have worked, but yes you will have to wait until the next update to see. Feel free to post here if you have any further problems.
