Solved BSOD New system build, memory_management and kmod_exception_not_handle

Vinny, a stop 0x124 is a hardware error. You need to find out the problem hardware and replace it. Otherwise there will always be a chance of more BSODs. Follow the step #9 of the stop 0x124 troubleshooting link.

Vinny1001, If you would rather, instead of waiting to see if it may be your Western Digital hard drive, you could download Western Digital's hard drive diagnostic program and run their tests which may tell you if there is a problem with the drive. I would run the long test. It takes quite a while to run but is much more thorough than the short tests. the 124 error is a general hardware error but gives no information on what type of hardware is causing the error. It is a common error in overclocking. I trust you are not doing that so the error must be coming from something else. And drivers can cause a 124 error. You could run memtest86 which is a ram test. Ram is one of the biggest causes of hardware errors we see here. It is quite a long test and is best run overnight. It is best run for 7 passes or until you see errors. If you see an error you can stop. The tutorial linked above will tell you exactly how to run it. If you have any questions Arc or someone will be happy to answer. These BSODs can be extremely difficult to diagnose and it is not an exact science, more of an art which Arc is very good at. Just stick with us and we will do our best at finding out the cause.

Got memory management bsod while the PC was logging into desktop
Don't understand why, I've tested the memory many many times, and I haven't had this one for awhile because before it was reoccurring.
Also, sometimes it freezes on shut down (rarely)
And it also hangs or freezes on start up either right before logging in or while it's logging in (more common)

Could this be a sign of a bad HD? But then again I've done tests, and after I get past logging in, it seems to be fine.

got another bsod, read my reply right above this.

essembe, I have ran 5 HD tests, all passed. I also done memtest for 9 passes on the 2 sticks I have, as I had 2 other sticks that had errors but I already eliminated those. The 2 good sticks passed 9 times on memtest.

I am not planning to overclock unless this system is 100% running with no bsods, because then if i OC and bsod, then I'll know it's from the OCing.

If I am gaming, or doing things that require more work than logging in, I don't blue screen. It seems to only blue screen on logging in or near that. I have reformatted multiple times, installed windows successfully, so I don't know what else it can be.

Thanks for the help

Arc, I don't have any extra devices to remove, other than an extra GPU, and my 1TB that's only a year or so old. My 500GB which the OS is on, is 2+ years old, but right in my prior system, it never acted up.
Plus if I removed devices, well, it takes days for it to bsod if any, this would take forever, but I feel like if it was the GPU it'd bsod more often during games, not only on start up or on desktop with maybe 1 program open.. ya know?

I am thinking I can try to reformatt and put windows on the 1TB, and if it doesn't hang on start up or shut down, and no bsods, I would think the 500GB would have been the problem then. So I may reformat on the 1TB soon if all else fails..

Any other thoughts? I really feel like if it was a hardware issue such as the CPU even, it'd bsod more during well, everyhting. not only start up.

I really do appreciate this help! :)

Vinny, I have tried to skim through this thread and may have missed several things. You are a real champ for sticking with it. Not many people are willing to do this. I recall you saying you ran sfc /scannow. What were the results? It is a system file checker and will verify and try to fix any corrupted files or missing ones it finds. Have you run memtest86 on each slot in the board. It tests for memory errors, but any errors can be caused by a bad memory stick or can be caused by a defective dim slot. Memory management errors can be driver related, but usually relate to memory. They can also be the memory from your Graphics card. Would it be possible for you to remove completely the graphics cards and run off of on board graphics to eliminate this possibility? I realize this is a Pain but, at this point, we are trying to eliminate each thing, to verify whether it could be the board itself. Your possibilities, as I see them, is bad hardware somewhere along the line. memory, CD/DVD, Hard drive, GPU, PSU or the board. I realize this is a pain, but it is necessary to find the cause. trust me, I've done it more than I care to remember. I can give you some suggestions if you like, but they will require some work on your part. Each thing I suggest, believe me is what I do myself. If it has to be such a pain, make it as little a pain as possible. Let me know what you think it is. It is difficult to diagnose these things through messages. The person watching what is happening is the best to judge. I can only go by what you explain to us. I'm pretty much just a hardware guy. Arc is the expert when reading dump files and drivers. I'm not smart enough to do what he does. I just know how to take things apart and put them together and try to find the problem device. It is quite simple what I do. Simple, but can be a lot of extra work. Just let me know what you would like as well as what you think.

Well, I got this new asus, before i had the asrock, and now memory management bsods are jumping in, it was strong for a good 5 days or so, then it just starts happening. I have the same things running on start up and everything is the same as before, it's only on start up or logging in. Nothing has acted up with my GPU's, or if I use the GPU it doesn't blue screen, CPU i'd think it'd bsod more often, esp. during gaming, same goes for the GPU. All my games are on my 1TB and never get bsod when gaming.

I do understand what you want me to do, but just how this is piecing together does and doesn't point to certain items or hardware. my PC was going strong for a few days, nothing changed, then bsods again.

I am going to try the 1TB sometime, and if that still gives me bsods, I'll have to start pulling out my gpu's and.. cd drive.. and.. idk what else i'd be able to really pull out to test

EDIT:
plus, every since this fresh successful windows 7 installation, which was about a week ago, this is the first memory_management bsods i'm getting and i just got them both within 2 hours on both start ups, while it was logging into desktop. before when i had faulty ram sticks it'd bsod all the time so i doubt it's ram or the slots, and i doubt it'd be the graphics card otherwise wouldn't it have blue screened with memory_management or another related bsod within the past week??

its' important to remember that running memtest is not a definitive way to say your Ram is good just because it doesn't generate errors, memtest will only detect badly faulted Ram and ultimately your O/S is the only way to truly stress Ram.

One good way of testing is to run Prime95 and if you have Ram problems you will get errors quite quickly show up.
Also use your sleep function on demand which really stresses Ram and often highlights faults.

I noticed on the Asrock motherboard your chosen Ram of crucial ballistic sport 16gb is not on the manufacturers QVL which is a strong indicator that your Ram isn't going to work on that board.

I don't know what combo you have on your Asus board so if you can post exact specs with what you have now we could take a look ?

your variety of persistent issues point at hardware and guessing from a distance it looks like Ram ..............

I guess I can try prime95. What should I do with prime95 once I obtain that? Ram tests? how long?

sleep function on demand? like putting the computer in sleep mode?

That was true, I did notice that, but on the crucial site for that ram, it noted the asrock board was supported.

I now have the asus P8z77 V LK with crucial ballistix sport

see thing is, I had a good system running, ever since today it just started getting bsods on each start up, if left off for awhile. If it bsods, I just restart and it's fine. But if I turn it off.. go to work.. come back, and then it'll blue screen on first start up. this just started today!

The past week it never did this, it'd start up and hang sometimes, sometimes freeze, not too often but it's noticeable. But all of a sudden I am getting bsods as i explained on a start up after a long time of being off.

I don't have anything new running on start up, or anything new installed. It's all the same stuff as when it was fine, to what it's at now, but it's deciding to blue screen like explained.

I just got home and now i got page_fault_in_nonpaged_area bsod
in the dmp files it says.

blah... this all just. sucks. lol. what i don't understand is it does it on the first start up, then after that it's fine. maybe something with the cmos? idk. doubt that though.

Thanks for the help so far everyone. I'll do prime95 soon, as well as removing the gpu's tomorrow and see if the problem still persists to elimate some hardware :|

Yes try Sleep mode for stress testing Ram.

Have you tried unplugging all sata connections and re-securing.

Have you got fully updated firmware on an SSD if fitted.

Have you tried a different PSU.

Can you please provide the identifying numbers for your crucial ballistix sport.

essembe, i last night I noticed i had adobe photoshop installed that was a new program, and i noticed i didn't disable one of the start up update things, because there were 3 or so start up, i disabled 2 of them and forgot the other, and I disabled the 3rd one, and my PC turned on fine.

Last night when i turned it on I had to do it 3 times with restarts but I kept getting bsods, but then it was fine, disabled the adobe thing, and now this morning I turned on my PC without a problem.

I'll have to see if it blue screens when I get home from work because it mainly bsods when I leave it off for awhile then turn it back on

PRIME95 SHOWS SOME ERROR?

i ran the stress on memory test BLEND, it tells me to check the stress.text file but i don't know where that is? no file was either created after i stopped the test.

but some of the "worker #7" tests like that, show this (refer to screenshot)
this test was done for 30 minutes, but those errors showed up within minutes

How long should I run these tests and what other tests can I do? Where can I get the file to make it easier to read?

and-----

I will post screen shots right now

2. You may try going into BIOS and leaving the timings and voltages the same except change the Command rate to 2T instead of 1T. 2T is normally more stable than 1T. Try the Prime test again.

The text file should be found in the same folder that the Prime95 installation files are located in. It will be a .TXT file

1. I am not OCing, especially won't be if the computer can't even handle being normal haha

2. I could not find where the command rate was, I looked where all the ram stuff was and it was all set to auto, and there were a few things I could change but it was more so enabling or disabling.
What exactly am I looking for in the bios?

I have prime95 on my desktop, it created 3 txt files but none of them are the stress test file.

EDIT: yeah i checked in BIOS under ai tweaking and then under dram timing control and there wasn't anything about the T1 or T2 and what it let me change were to disable or enable things

After disabling that adobe start up thing my PC restarts normal now with bsods while logging into desktop. hm

but need to solve for those errors on prime95. gotta see what hardware it is

This is my Prime95 folder showinf the strees.txt file. You could try downloading it again and re-run it. Delete the current one first but don't empty the Recycle Bin.

FUBAR Alert! You are looking for a results.txt file. Just above the one I pointed too here.

Ok I ran the same test, but with a newer version of prime95 and it shows no errors... but the other one showed errors within the first 2 tests on the ones i circled. this one does 7 passes and no errors.

Also, when I download it, it just gives me the exe. but the newer one gave me some .txt files with it but even after i stop this test it doesn't give me a results.txt

Can you provide me with a download link 'cause both of the ones I got don't install anything, they just give me the .exe

Can I have some tips too on which tests I should run and for how long?

Thanks! I haven't had any bsods since disabling the adobe start up. But still curious why my system hangs sometimes while the OS loads up and sometimes right after pressing enter to log into desktop.

Still would like to see why my system is unstable with some stuff :|

EDIT:
I ran both prime95's again cus I had a newer version as well, both now show no errors. But the first time I ran it, which I screenshotted, showed those errors I circled. From that first one, it did provide me with a results.txt
so here it is in the attachment

the stress txt file isnt terribly important other than an historic reference, and if your going to get errors it happens in the first few minutes with Prime95.

The Rounding errors when OC means the cpu isn't stable normally a vcore problem or ram or northbridge voltage.

So on a stock build if this happened I would know its very likely the motherboard Bios isnt setting correct voltages or I had a bad CPU or Ram or faulty PSU.

In your case with the most recent version you dont have these errors so its a moot point.

I don't see anything obvious currently but a lot of variables keep changing and at this time if you do get more instability and or Bluescreens the most important thing first is being able to faithfully reproduce the fault.

Prime should run 8+ hours to get a good indication of stability. Many here say 24 hours, but I think 8 is enough. Prime is a stand-alone program with no installer needed, run it at default blend settings.

thanks for that info ickymay. but how can I know which settings need to be changed or tweaked? what should I be looking for or what else can I do?

I ran prime95 again this morning and right away on worker#2 it gave me that rounding was .5 expected less than .4
all the other worker#'s are not showing the errors it showed the other day.

the bsod issue i had was from adobe, but since disabling that I haven't gotten it. But it shouldn't be blue screening over that in the first place.. never did on my old build. old build took anything i threw at it. this machine, argh.. lol

Not sure if I can reproduce this error or what.

I am planning to reformat again and just keep the program I know on that work, and see how the system runs..
Don't really know what else I can do

britton, I may run it then sometime for a longer time, errors sometimes come up right away, and other times they don't come up for awhile. :\

Thanks for the support so far guys!

EDIT: I just got my new sticks of ram in, (crucial ballistix sport, 4GB each stick)
So I am taking out my current 2 sticks, and sticking these new ones in the same slots, and I am going to see if anything changes, better or worse.

with respect you where not running an ;
Asrock z77 extreme4 (new)
Intel i7 3770k Ivy Bridge (new)
Coolmaster 212 Evo (new)
16GB of crucial ballistic sport on your old rig,

so please can you state here the exact model of your PSU ?

I would be checking the Ram and CPU voltages in BIOS to make sure they exactly match correct spec ?

Looking at the readout from CPUz your core voltage looks a bit low , is that consistently 0.82v ish ?

I would be looking for more like 0.95v to 1v ?

Did you manually set your Ram to use 1T as your settings are quite aggressive and for the sake of looking for stability for a few % loss I would drop to 2T maybe even slacken the timings further.

If you are not experiencing anymore Bluescreens then don't touch anything
