Solved Some help selecting memory please

This new stuff is confusing to me but here goes:

Here are two different memory sticks that seem to be what my motherboard requires:

Are these interchangeable and what are the differences?

I am getting ready to order but need to order the proper memory.

This is the motherboard which is already installed in the case:

No problem, Yes they are essentially the same however I believe the 'X' in the higher performance range if you understand. They are both the same size and both the same speed however for $2/$3 more you might as well go for them

Depends what you want to do. Keep in mind some programs will not or will not work properly on Windows 8 yet.

What cpu are you going for i agreed with your choice of mem because your chip is a sandy which is rated at 1333 speed for your mobo if your upgrading cpu to ivybridge then mem speed goes up to 1600, if thats relevant as i think you may have already put new chip in your specs just trying to be thorough

I understand.

This computer will be flexible. I will not be forced to install any special software. It will be an Internet type of machine.

The computer I am on now is the one that should be able to do anything.

The new one is a low budget computer. I hope I can keep it that way.

Re: Windows 8 - I have never even seen it. I know no one who has it installed. Most of my folks have Vista or XP. It's difficult for me to get to the big city and visit some stores.

Here's the CPU which will be here in 2 days. I cannot change that.

Stick with win7 for your low-end science experiment. Win8 seems to be geared to the cell phone touch screen type users. We will be here to help you with your project. You could always add the Trial version of Win8 as Dual Boot with win7 to get a feel for it.

Sounds good to me.

I saw, last night, that I could buy Windows 8 for about $69 sacrificing one of my XP licenses. That is not a problem but my intention has always been Windows 7 64 bit Pro. Would love to find it on sale.

Here's the result.

Went with Win 7 Pro 64 Bit

The only difference is that the X has Timing 9-9-9-24 and the non X has Timing 9-9-9-24-2N. The X has a better timing, so it should be faster, albeit slightly (very slightly).

For an office machine (internet, Office suite, similar) you could have taken the naked rams, that would have been cheaper, although not by a lot.
For those kinds of low-end machines I usually sell used hardware to keep costs down as frankly you don't need a socket 1155 rig for that, any decent socket 775 rig with maxed ram can do it.
