I had 4 explorer.exe's running!

Ok, I noticed an issue is my task manager. I had 4 explorer.exe's running! It seems when opening a new folder (the way described in the link below with screenshot) is what makes it happen. Is there a FIX for this bug???? Very annoyed.

With Windows 7, it is not uncommon for there to be multiple iexplore.exe processes running. When you close a web page, they seem to just go into idle mode -- perhaps trying to speed up the next time you visit that page. I currently have 8 running, in background. I've noticed more than a dozen running in the past. They take up memory -- but I've been told that is not a problem since if some other program wants the memory, then they will shut down and release their memory.

This is different from Win XP where iexplore.exe disappears when you close the window (or at least it is supposed to -- I am having a problem on my XP machine about that).

Basically -- don't worry about multiple iexplore.exe running in Win 7.

You could install Process Explorer and see what it shows you. It give a lot more info that Task Manager.

Sorry, my bad. I agree with you about process explorer -- pretty good tool.

Now and then this happens on my Windows Seven PC. I wrote a lot of programs that open Explorer windows. To make cutting Explorer copies back to one I wrote a small utility that closes all but the oldest(so you don't get your tray apps closing etc.) if you click OK. The zip has both 32 and 64 bit versions of ExplorerReset. You may download from this page

The zip includes AHK_L source code. You don't need it. The 32 and 64 bit copies are already compiled. But I put the source scripts and custom icon in the zip so you know what's in the programs. You may customize it if you wish.

edit: I just updated the zip to include a Readme.txt file. It's self-evident how to use the program. The usual "free for you to use at your own risk" disclaimer applies.

Now and then this happens on my Windows Seven PC.

I get it occasionally as well, although through more 'typical' usage.

I simply kill them or restart if possible.
