so the process you followed was: claim caching is problem > find buggy driver > disable service related to driver > reboot, with caching still enabled > claim that caching was the problem.
If you haven't been following his posts, he has been disabling SuperFetch, indexing and a variety of other things to improve his performance. His argument here was more or less, "yet again, another service robbing my system of performance". Although in this case, it is a buggy driver, will be fixed and is certainly a problem.

I just looked at my machine after using it for about 2 hours this morning and here is what task manager shows with caching and everything else enabled;
TaskManager-Win7-FreeRAM.png

I have had the situation after using a lot of other apps where my free RAM is much lower..and my cached RAM is much higher....but I cannot honestly say that I have seen any performance difference whatsoever. Even with ALT-TAB between applications using an Nvidia card and still having the 186 nvidia drivers.

i think win7 is the best Op. Sys. by M.S.
i tried using 1ram 2 ram 4 ram with no problem whats so ever .
where as in the past i had to upgrade ram in order to get a decent result with previous Op.sys.
i am preety sure future Op.Sys will be more user friendly and powerful.

I personally don't like (I can even say hate) that MS keeps re-naming and moving windows functions (or whatever you call it) around. I am talking about Control Panel. It is different even from Vista. Hate it, but it's just me..

So, here we go. After about 1 hour of just sitting here, my RAM is all used up. Less than 30MB free of my 8GB. The only running application is firefox. But my machine is 100% responsive, alt tab is fine, applications open super fast....it's just as if I rebooted a clean install and am just starting out for the day.

What don't you like about the registry?

I love windows 7, but the registry can get messy. I really think they should have their own registry cleaner.. although ccleaner works well.

also rar support would have been nice and maybe a new computer/recycle icon (ha cant complain much about that though).. overall though i love w7, its an amazing upgrade of vista and how it should have been from the start

Start Menu Folders

The best thing about Windows was that I could create Folders on the Start Menu, such as Office, Games, App Dev, Internet, etc. Then place shortcuts in these folders for quick access to my most used Apps. Windows 7 will not let me do this. My productivity has come to a stand still. Please add this to Windows 7, that way I will like Windows 7 more than any other windows Os.

Most people I guess put icons on their desktops, but this is very un-productive way to use windows.

Thanks

I love win 7 myself and one thing abt it that bothers me is the size of the winsxs folder after installing and un-installing apps. for that reason I dont install anything unless necessary. if you follow that philosophy you dont really need a reg cleaner. CCleaner works in win 7 but it can still cause problems so the less we use them the better

WinKey > type a couple of letters of the application name > if first item hit enter, if in another position use arrow keys/mouse to select (windows will remember and make that the first item for repeated searches).

Second method is to pin most used application either to the start menu or taskbar.

you can still put custom folders in your start menu...

click start button >> right-click on 'All Programs' >> Open All Users

this will open windows explorer to the start-menu folder. you can now add folders and move/create shortcuts to your heart's content.

you can also 'pin' favourite shortcuts to the taskbar, and can reinstate the quicklaunch bar too.

happy shortcutting!

I'm pretty much pleased with it. As with any pre-release there should be bugs and hopefully those will be ironed out by official release date.

I really don't mind troubleshooting and finding out why "this" or "that" isn't working :geek:

I really feel this OS will work as well as Xp does for me!

I totally love Windows 7, but nothing is perfect.

It apears that the XP mode that was promised is not compatible with my CPU, ofcourse this is not quite the fault of Microsoft, but it makes me feel as if they want me to buy a new machine if I really want this XP mode.

I mean, I could run Virtual PC and VMWare fine on this machine so what's the big deal all of a sudden???

Other then that, I love windows 7.

Its actually fun to use.

I you can run VirtualPC, you can run XP Mode. If you can not run Virtual PC, it's no fault of Microsoft. It's like trying to watch a VHS video with a DVD player and blame the player manufacturer when it's a no go.

The thing I dislike most in Windows 7 is that there's almost nothing to complain.

2. Games, Age of Empires 3, and games like that arent made to work on vista(but can still work :P) CANNOT work on Windows 7 rtm... Or atleast i think so, i gotts test it out a little bit and stuff.

3. Start button menu's. When you hit the start button, its like they made the size to show everything in the stuff the start button shows longer than the needed space. In vista all the icons/control panel/ etc buttons all fit nicely, in W7 rtm, theres a LARGE space between the last item on the side(Help and Support) and the shutdown buttons.

4. I like the vista shutdown buttons better.. it looks more.. "pro" XD But w.e

I wished that was true.

I had virtual machine installed on Windows 7, which ran fine.
So then I downloaded the XP mode and all of a sudden it gives me this error that my CPU does not support hardware virtualization.

Both are virtual machines, so why all of a sudden choose for "hardware virtualization" while only a handfull of cpu's can seem to handle it?

I understand your analogy but in this case it makes no sense.

Lets say you buy a car.
That car works fine, just like any other car that you have driven.
But then all of a sudden the goverment thinks its good for the ecology to drive with square wheels.

You find yourselves unable to get forward, because physics teach us that square wheels do not work in this universe unless you drive on a road that is made out of soggy mud.

Only a handfull of roads on this planet are made out of that AND meant for normal cars.

Upon being asked "why did you buy square wheels??" I reply : Why does your virtual machine based XP mode not work!?.

Long story short:

My story makes no sense, and so does this "design flaw" of the xp mode.
