What's your memory assessment speed? [2]

Hum I am running 8GB G Skill @ 1866MHz and this my readout just surfing - my WEI is by the way 7.3 after installing a real basic NVidia GTX 650.

So is this good average or what as I have no idea what the performance is in relation to the run time.

Quad channel @ 1600MHz with CPU OCed to 4.6GHz I'm getting about 37GB/s.

Run time is how long it took to run the test (additional factors involved here), not as much just how fast the RAM is. Memory performance is the number you want to know what your memory performance results were.

RAM speed can be so fast that the number of channels and the CPU can be the bottleneck, not just the RAM itself.

Double Wrend I was planning on 16GB and belting it up to 2133MHz but it (mobo I think) doesn't like that speed even with the two sticks.

Yeah, solid speed then for double channel. I think your CPU memory bandwidth maxes out at a theoretical 25.6 GB/s anyway (if I'm looking up the right one here).

I want to know if that RAM is in triple or quad channel mode. Under optimum conditions, with the highest binned parts, RAM in dual channel mode won't hit 38k MB/s. I think the absolute highest I've seen is about 32k, and for that test, the difference in 32k and 38k is a whole lot, not in the margin of error of hardware. I want to peek behind the curtain and see what the trick is.

My RAM is in Dual channel mode. There's only 2 (two) sticks. There's no trick.
All my BIOS settings are at default.
I haven't O/C yet as I'm waiting for Cooler Parts.

I would think you should be maybe getting around 28.5GB/s with your 2133MHz RAM, if the "max memory bandwidth" is based on 1600MHz.

Kelly, that is about right for 1866, in fact, maybe slightly high. Pretty much what you would expect for 1866. I have 1866 in my P67 rig and get lower.

BTW, Kelly, the extra 1000 points is because you have 16GB and I have 8GB. It is not supposed to matter, but it does. I had 16GB of 2133 in the P67 and took 8 out to put in another rig. My score dropped 1000 points. So, it does matter to both yours and Gary's. I ran 8GB of 2133 in my Maximus board for a while and scored about 1000 points less than Gary. So, contrary to popular belief, the amount of ram does seem to matter.

That's good to hear, I ran the numbers several months ago, and for the money at that time, I made the decision that 1866 was the best value for me. To be honest, 1600MHz is probably more than enough, but...you know lol.

If there is one thing I've learned about RAM is, it's finicky. Now, we have a much larger frequency range, each with multiple latencies, at different voltages, and with the introduction of 8gb sticks, you can have 16gb of RAM with only 2 sticks! Now, we can get 2x8gb kits at varying frequencies/latencies that might outperform the same RAM in a 4x4gb configuration....choosing RAM is clearly a job for someone with mild OCD!
