Solved Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit to Professional 64bit OEM?

Hi, I have had 32bit on my custom PC for a while now, and I wanted to get 64bit, but when I bought one from Memory Express, the guy gave me an OEM, I do not know that much about computers, but it seems OEM only works for brand new computers? From what I have seen, I also need to be a system builder in order to get some files from microsoft (which I am not), so what do I do about this? Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Question 2: If I was to erase the windows 32bit through command prompt, would I be unable to use the OEM to install 64bit cleanly?

You have to do a clean install to go from 32 to 64 bit, no upgrade is possible. Save your data then:

Hello Wasret, and welcome to Seven Forums.

What sort of files were you wanting to get from Microsoft? Depending on what you want, you should be able to no matter if it's an OEM or retail copy of Windows.

You can install an OEM copy the same a retail copy. The only difference is that the product key an OEM copy is permanently tied to the motherboard of the PC that it was first activated on, and the product key can never be activated on any other PC.

Actually, you could just boot from the 64-bit OEM installation disc, delete the 32-bit partition during the installation, and select it to install the 64-bit on. Be sure to back up anything you do not want to lose first though.

I would recommend to make sure that you have 64-bit Windows 7 drivers available for all of the devices on your system first.

The Windows 7 System Builder (generic OEM) license is intended only for systems for resale.

Don't worry about it, though. There appears to be no enforcement of this by Microsoft. I don't know what percentage of SB copies sold by the majors (like Newegg) end up in personal systems, but I speculate that the majority stay in the hands of end users. The additional files that you mention are to configure Windows in a system for resale; you don't need the files at all.

The SB copies are usually installed on a blank hard drive.

Appears his hardware vendor sold it to him with an OEM Win7 copy, so it seems to fit the qualifications.
