I would like to get more knowledge on system tools and computer management focusing only on how they can help in a troubleshooting. I was humiliated in a job test and so I am trying to avoid that it happens again .... In internet I found the standard things....I would like to get as much knowledge that could come from an experienced desktop engineer. Just to give you an example questioned: How can you get user desktop info without the user know that?

Many thanks

Thanks Ztruker,

Most of all I would like to know if there is a valid documentation or better a tutorial to know in deep how to use all the tools in system and in computer management .... it because in a job question test done I have realised I don't have a deep knowledge/experience. I would like to be prepared next time....for myself and to get the job :).

The problem a lot of folks have is that they want to learn "tools", but the tools are just there to provide insight into what is happening or to configure how something works or does not. Unless you learn how an underlying system works, how it's designed, and best practices (and other gotchas) for that system, knowing "management tools" will have allowed you to learn absolutely nothing of use or value. Note I'm not picking on you (and very unhappy to hear you had a bad job interview experience!), but you're barking up the wrong tree if you want to get better at administration and to position yourself as more qualified for employment in the field. You need to know more about the OS (assuming Windows here), and about how it works (and doesn't), and then you can learn better how to manage it.

There are lots of good sysadmin books and guides out there, but the real question is, what's the level you'll want to start at (aka where are you know, in terms of knowledge), and where specifically do you want to go in the next 3, 6, 12, 24 months?

You are perfectly right .... but I am really disorientated.... I can see you got the MCITP certificated ..... I have studied very hard to get the first MCITP certification the 70-640 i am trying to get the others... in 2008 I have also got a Cisco CCNA qualification but to be honest I don't feel I have concretely a master-hood of AD and Win server 2008. I have to say the experience make the difference. In the interview the technical questions are not a general questions but real case ...you can reply only if you come a cross in your normal work experience. In-fact never happen to me that opening the word application it appear with a letter on it so when the interviewer asked me how I could solve this problem I could only replay reinstalling it-- Wrong reply --

If you can pass the Cisco CCNA certification test......OS monitoring/troubleshooting should be easy! Look at the top right in this forum and click on "Tutorials".......browse and when something catches your eye, read it....you have a much better idea of what you want to know than we do. If you are talking about Windows Server Infrastructure/Admin........I'd get a book or guide. I just finished school where I had 4 Cisco Networking classes, and 2 Windows Server Admin classes(and a handful of other more useless courses) so I know where you are coming from....I can recommend a couple of text books that will help you with AD and other aspects of Windows Server Admin if that is what you want. Feel free to PM me.

Kelly

Then you miss the point of interview questions like this - they're not asking you for the *right* answer (although that'd be great), they're looking to see how you think, how you approach problem-solving scenarios, and to get an insight into how quickly you give up. You failed the interview because you failed to think and understand, not because you lacked experience.
