Dbanning - Give me extra Info on it

So I have a corrupted hard drive from my laptop.
I gave it to my IT instructor and she told me she can fix it by Dbanning it.
I had no clue what she was talking about until I did some research on it.
It's original name is the Darik's boot and nuke.
Is there anything I need to know about the setup and what to expect?
My IT instructor told me that I will be installing my Windows 7 Pro on it after it has been Dban.
This will be my first time Dbanning my own hard drive.

DBAN basically wipes the drive, rather than a conventional format that just removes certain pieces of data to make the drive appear blank DBAN will physically rewrite every sector/byte to ensure it is blank

Let's keep in mind I'm being instructed by my instructor who has a bachelor's degree in the IT field. So I trust her expertise. I am not doing the dbanning alone.
