Keyboard/Mouse won't wake up Windows 7 when sleeping

It used to work without an issue then it stopped. Not sure if the issue is due to an update from Windows or from another hardware. Basically when the computer goes to sleep the keyboard and mouse is supposed to wake the computer up (I set it up that way), but nowadays I have to manually click the power button for the compute to wake up. Furthermore, the USB with the wifi, bluetooth, etc...won't work either so I have to restart the computer.

This is a fairly new build (less than 6 months) and now I'm having issues with the simple features.

I've messed around with this setting before but the issue persist. I've gone as far as changing some setting with my keyboard/mouse in device manager but still no dice.

What's weird is that sometimes my computer will wake up and sometimes it won't, but majority of the time (90%+) it won't.

No. All of my USB is plugged in the front panel the Corsair 600T. I did some research about the issue too and it seems lots of people are having this issue with Windows 7. Can you confirm this?

My PS/2 mouse died and I got a USB mouse as a replacement (big mistake).

Of course I can't wake my PC now.
The USB keyboard has never been able to do it.

In fact, waking a PC using USB devices has never worked on any version of Windows (98SE, XP or W7) or motherboard (ASUS, Gigabyte or ASRock) I've ever used.

Since there seems to be dozens of settings related to this, selecting the correct combination by "trial and error" is impossible.

I have never had a problem "Waking from Sleep" using the mouse, which is a Logitech Trackball Mouse that I have had for about 6 years. Originally it was installed as a PS2 mouse using a USB to PS2 adapter. Recently I decided to change it to a full USB mouse so I downloaded the appropriate software from Logitech & it works perfectly.
Check under Device Manager, Mice & other pointing devices, then Power Management tab & Tick the box "Allow this device to wake the computer".

I have a Logitech M105 ("el cheapo").

I checked the settings for my keyboard and mouse.
They were already set to "Allow this device to wake the computer".
I've also checked my Power Plan settings.

There are several options in the BIOS and I have tried several different combinations.

I have to use that method to wake up my PC (since my keyboard and mouse are now both USB-based).

So much for new and improved technology.
I never had these issues with the "outdated" PS/2 peripherals.

I seem to have fixed a similar problem with USB (or any) wake up; where the problem was apparently caused by Windows Update, since that was the only variable at the time the problem manifested. To fix, I went to Control_Panel --> Power_Options --> USB_Settings -- USB selective suspend setting : Disabled. I can't tell you what this does, (Microsoft gibberish prompts,) but afterwards, I was able to use keyboard to get out of "sleep".

On another forum, I read about Device_Manager --> Universal Serial Bus controllers --> USB Root Hub [all, individually] --> (double click for "Properties") --> (Select tab) Power Management --> (Uncheck) Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

At the BIOS level, apparently there is S1 versus S3, where S3 is supposed to be more comprehensive because it turns off fans, and such. Saw some comments that S3 doesn't really exist. There are generally some controls in the BIOS about sleep/wake; I have no idea how they should be set.

Anyway, preliminary tests indicate that I can "wake" with my keyboard again. So far only limited tests, and only with "sleep", not "hybernate" yet. We shall see. I probably will not return to this forum to update with test results, so you are on your own.

I tried resetting (again):

• My Power Options (restored default settings)
• Any USB device that had a Power Management tab (in Device Manager)

It made no difference.
My PC seemingly turns all USB devices off when it is in Sleep mode.

The settings must have to be set in a specific order (BIOS, Device Manager, Power Options, etc.).

I have my PC set to that option (USB selective suspend setting > Disabled).
I just tested both options, but there was no difference (i.e. it still wouldn't wake).

I think that the issue is caused by something "higher up the chain of command".

I have the keyboard and mouse plugged into an USB expansion panel.
The two ports plug into the motherboard (via cables).

The keyboard and mouse were previously (at different times) plugged into a rear USB port, which is directly connected to the motherboard.

That is why. You have them plugged into a usb expansion panel. Plug them directly in and you should not have any issues.

Correct.

I have 5 USB2 ports and one USB3 port on my motherboard.

I haven't tried the USB3 port (I'm not going to use that for a keyboard or mouse).

It's annoying.
Mostly because I don't know the answer.
It should be easy to make this basic function work (pressing the Power button is a minor annoyance).

It's taunting me. I want to know why it isn't working.

I never had these issues with PS/2 peripherals.
I think the most work I was ever forced to do, was to change a BIOS setting.

I did not know there were power settings for USB Hubs in Device Manager.
I have recently installed / upgraded Win 7 on 3 pc's (some old some new) and could not get mouse to wake the pc.
Disabling the power saving on internal USB Hubs has fixed the problem.
