Hi
Windows: Microsoft has released a Windows 7 update that adds a new option in the Disk Cleanup tool called Windows Update Cleanup. With it, you can free up several gigabytes of hard drive space from the bloated Windows Updates folder

did you find issue with this update?
i mean using the new feature , Disk Clean up with windows update cleanup Turned ON?

like BSOD , or other general issues?

would be nice to share

thanks

Second desktop different spec but similar level.
I just want to "Thank you" to whoever moved this from General Discussion. I'd thought about requesting a move but wasn't sure it was something a general user could do.

I find it quite confusing to have to go back & forth from different forums/threads to find info on the same subject. I found that out when I was guilty myself of posting to 2 similar threads. :o Since then, I try to remember to "Search" for a topic.

And I appologize if this post should have been somewhere else.

As far as I can see you can't. Not in the normal interface.

Selecting Temporary Internet Files or Downloaded Program Files give you the option to View files, but that option is not there for Service Pack Backup Files (mine was 0, so could be due to that) or Windows Update Cleanup.

I got my cleanup tool through Windows Updates and used it as directed. It worked and removed 4.41 gb without any problems. I did reboot twice afterwards because I'm paranoid.
Then I check for any new Windows 7 updates and none were found, that's good.

As far as I know their is no log of what has been removed.
For me the tool worked as advertised.

Yes.

To be clear - we are talking about installing KB2852386 and then running the disk cleanup tool.

Open this log file before clicking on the button named Delete Files (shown above).
Code:
%SystemRoot%\Logs\CBS\DeepClean.log
When you see an entry like...
Adding: Package_for_KB2532531........
...that will be an update that will be cleaned.

That same info seems to be in here:
Code:
%SystemRoot%\Logs\DISM\dism.log

I haven't been able to find many things using Windows explorer lately but when I use Everything Search it finds them in 1 to 2 seconds.

Fascinating. Thanks for the information guys.

Do we know if the program is just deleting the saved downloaded installer files, or is it actually undoing the operating system update changes?
I would guess that those changes had already been un-done by newer updates and that would therefore make the older update obsolete - therefore no need to keep the download saved or available.

Bear - can you PM me that log (or attach it here?) - I want to compare a 'normal system' with the results I get from my VM's, and I'm not going to run the tool on my live system!
